I love watching it. Seriously. I'm far more a supporter of the USA women's team than the mens. Japan, in particular, is really skilled and entertaining. And what I particularly like the most, sappy as it sounds, is the sportmanship. No histrionic injury faking (except for a few unfortunate S. American teams), few idiotic tantrums/head-games during play, and very few ego-driven unstable weirdos (e.g., Vidal, Suarez, those idiots from LC in that orgy), and far less money in the game, so the players are playing much more for the glory, not for the endorsements (though obviously they pursue these when it arises), not for the twitter followers, and not for the ridiculous transfer fees. When the game is good, it's quite pure. I'm thinking particularly of the game Japan-USA 2011 world cup final. Great game. No idiots rolling around on the ground holding their shin guards when they felt a breath on their left ear, technically sound, and just excellent athletes gutting it out. I think what varies from match to match and team to team, more so than the men's game, is the skill level. But dump an equal amount of money into the women's game (but see my caveats above...), change a bunch of social attitudes about women playing the game, and things will move more towards equilibrium. Doubt if it will ever compare to the men's game, but comparing right now isn't really a level playing field with huge social and financial obstacles in the way. And I'm not sure if comparing the "men's game" to the "women's game" is the way to view it in the first place.
