Everton might have work permit issues with Belfodil

Everton could face an issue with the Football Association regarding a work permit for striker target Ishak Belfodil. The FA has put in new rules effective the beginning of 2016 for players from the non-EEA (European Economic Areas) regions and Belfodil being an Algerian international would come under those regulations.

Previously, in order to qualify to play in the United Kingdom, a player would have to have played in at least 75% of their country’s senior international matches over the previous two years.

Per the new system in place, with Algeria being ranked 38th in the FIFA rankings (as of Dec 22nd, 2016), Belfodil is expected to have featured in at least 75% of his nation’s games over the last two years.

The forward has played in only 13 of the nation’s last 19 games over the past 24 months, and that is only 68%. So from the letter of the law, he would be ineligible for a work permit to play in the Premier League for Everton.

However, there is an appeals process where it is very likely the club can push his credentials through as he has a total of 14 international caps with 2 goals since August 2013. Belfodil is a former France junior international and has played for Lyon in France, Bologna, Parma, Inter Milan and Livorno in Italy before his current stint at Standard Liege in Belgium where he has 9 goals in 21 games, including 3 in 5 Europa League games as well.

Has a French passport according to some and according to that last bastion of truth and accuracy Wikipedia?

EVERTON CLOSE ON BELFODIL

Everton are close to agreeing a £10.4million deal for Standard Liege striker Ishak Belfodil, according to the Guardian.

The 24-year-old has netted nine goals in 19 appearances for the Belgian club this season, and could be the latest in a string of deals set to be completed by Ronald Koeman this January.

No i havent seen him play once. Which is why I'm not forming an opinion and writing him off instantly

Gotcha, So saying you aren't excited about a transfer is the same as writing him off instantly. Isn't the point of the message board to come and express your opinion or should we all be brainless drones supporting Everton's impeccable transfer history without opinions?

I said I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm still not excited about the transfer.

Ha Ha. Spending like a drunken sailor.

£10M for this feller; £10M for a lad from Charlton; up to £24M for Schneiderlin; Bolassie in the summer for £27M.

If it wasn't so frightening it'd be hilarious.
Do you still believe a big name will have to be sold in the summer to fund this?

Is he going to turn up like he did for Parma, or is he going to flop under the weight of his hype whilst at Lyon ?

Hopefully he can live up to his Lyon hype, if so then £10m will seem like a bargain along the lines of Arteta and Pienaar !
