Everton might have work permit issues with Belfodil
Target doesn’t quite meet the requirements laid down by the FA

Everton could face an issue with the Football Association regarding a work permit for striker target Ishak Belfodil. The FA has put in new rules effective the beginning of 2016 for players from the non-EEA (European Economic Areas) regions and Belfodil being an Algerian international would come under those regulations.

Previously, in order to qualify to play in the United Kingdom, a player would have to have played in at least 75% of their country’s senior international matches over the previous two years.

Per the new system in place, with Algeria being ranked 38th in the FIFA rankings (as of Dec 22nd, 2016), Belfodil is expected to have featured in at least 75% of his nation’s games over the last two years.

The forward has played in only 13 of the nation’s last 19 games over the past 24 months, and that is only 68%. So from the letter of the law, he would be ineligible for a work permit to play in the Premier League for Everton.

However, there is an appeals process where it is very likely the club can push his credentials through as he has a total of 14 international caps with 2 goals since August 2013. Belfodil is a former France junior international and has played for Lyon in France, Bologna, Parma, Inter Milan and Livorno in Italy before his current stint at Standard Liege in Belgium where he has 9 goals in 21 games, including 3 in 5 Europa League games as well.

Interesting that all his goals were about 10 yds out give or take. not sure how he will get on with everton passing it sideways along the oppo's back four for 5 minutes before it breaks down. I like the idea of a poacher in the box ,god we need one, but i am not sure we get in behind teams enough for this fella.

Nah, you watch a lot of Baniyas Club and Liege games.... mate? So i'm doubting you have either, but I do see that in 7 years he's been with 8 clubs, so it's hard to get excited about it.

2 were loans and one club (parma where he was very good) went bust.

Tony Hibbert was at one club in 7 years. Let's sign him he must be world class lar.
Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs were also crap weren't they lad? Surely the point you should be making is a Nicolas Anelka... but the fact he actually played for good clubs, went for high fees and scored a lot of goals wouldn't really help you would it?

Hardly. He's done more than enough already to show he clearly knows how to spot a player. There is always a risk when spending relatively little that you will buy a donkey. His reputation won't change based on a £10m signing.
It's more about the fact that he's the option Walsh has chosen for the much needed second striker spot, not necessarily the fee in this instance.

I'm optimistic about this transfer as I have faith in Walsh due to his, as you point out, proven track record.

No i'd rather not stick with Kone, but I wasn't aware our only two options were:
A) Stick with Kone
or
B) Bring in Ishak

That leaves us in quite the dilemma

Yes it does - and we have been in quite the dilemma for some time now. We've not really got anything to lose by bringing in other options even if they are unknowns.

There have been times in the last couple of season where I'd have been pleased if they dragged someone out the stands and gave them a shot instead of some of the tripe the current deadwood has served up.

Just give the lad a chance eh?

plan b for depay? He surely wouldn't be the backup for rom we're in desperate need for, but if he's depay's plan b, which still looks very much on, then we wouldn't have got this sorted so quickly. Could possibly be a cheapish cover for bolasie's injury maybe?
