What will Brentford do? Nobody will buy a high value player they have. His contract will have a little over a year to run at the end of the ban so his value will decrease. Do they stop paying him? After all must be grounds not to pay a player you can’t use
His own actions alone have resulted in him not being available to play for Brentford, so yes, they should stop paying him.

Id still have him here.
Unless he has been shown to be match fixing I have no moral problem with him betting on games he isn’t playing in.
I accept that it shouldn’t be allowed, that he has been punished, but the bookies are the biggest losers here.
Yes, I am aware that match fixing can become a problem if gambling is systemic. But this is a significant punishment and a deterrent

The facts are the rules are clearly defined.

He broke the rules over 100 times.

His punishment when compared to others in the game who have been caught gambling is barely a sneeze.

If he got a lifetime time he'd have zero cause to complain.
Why should breaking the rules give a lifetime ban? If EFC are found guilty of FFP breaches should they get banned from football? The punishment should be proportionate to the offence

He bet on his own team 'Newcastle' when he was out on loan at another team and not playing for Newcastle. That is not betting against teams he was playing for or games he was playing in
Not sure if thats true or not but in any case thats not what the rules under which he was charged state.

Doesn't matter what you think as he was found guilty of charges under those rules, his club have accepted his guilt under those rules, and the only discussion now is around the length of his ban.

You and other think it should be a short ban and others, including me, think it should be a long ban.

I know i'll be giving him pelters next time he plays at Goodison and I also know he wont care a jot that I'm doing so.

You're still going on about the FFP?

It's completely unrelated to Ivan Toney.

He was fully aware of the rules, he broke them (knowingly) over a prolonged period.

Addiction? Maybe.

Does that make the law null and void? It certainly doesn't give him license to whine in the press about missing the world cup and the story leaking.

With all due respect, you don't know what I think. Yes, he was found guilty and he should be punished. I have stated that I believe the punishment should be proportionate to the offence. I don't believe banning him for life would be proportionate. I think breaking FFP rules is a more serious offence as it is cheating. Toney betting on games he did not participate in is not cheating.

It said: "Of those 29 bets, there were 13 bets on Mr Toney's own team to lose in 7 different matches between 22 August 2017 and 3 March 2018.

"Mr Toney did not play in any of those matches where he placed bets against his loan club as he was not in the match squad or against his parent club as he was on loan.

"Of the 13 bets 11 were against Newcastle whilst Mr Toney was on loan at another club. The other 2 bets related to a game between Wigan v Aston Villa whilst the player was on loan at Wigan but he was not part of the squad."

FFP is not unrelated. They are rules and if they are broken then there should be punishment. All I am saying is that the punishment should be proportionate.

Villa Fan loves FFP until Emery runs out of money to spend just as they're about to break the glass ceiling and either have to break the rules or sell a few top players and take a step backwards in the table.

Absolute con of a system.

Let's see what the actual charge against us is first before comparing it to hundreds of breaches of something that is known to be a massive red line.

You have to be found guilty first, that is not a given. But I think the punishment, if guilty should be relatively minimal albeit depending on what the actual breach is. If it is purely related to the stadium and tax it should just be a financial penalty imo.
