just seen that he's only scored 6 goals for arsenal in the premier league during his entire career. crazy

think he's very talented, just been horrendously unlucky with injuries... ruined a promising career.

edit: he's still only 24, mental.

Jack Wilshere is not expected to be fit until mid-March, as his recovery from the fractured fibula that has wrecked his season continues to grind on at slow speed.
Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, had previously hoped to welcome back the midfielder towards the end of February but he reported on Friday that Wilshere has only just begun to run outside and will need another six weeks before he is in shape to play.

Roy will still pick him for the Euro's like

Only if the defenders are either/both Jags or/and Stones though.
Ha, with Cahill slithering free from any blame...

You'd have though he would have learnt from the World Cup wouldn't you - play a proper defensive midfielder there, one who knows his trade and hasn't been shunted back because Roy wants to include him in the team but can't justify him in the attacking positions because there are others clearly better even to his myopic eyes.

We'll probably end up with Rooney in midfield if Wilshere can't make it :(

Won't be surprised tbh. I mean Rooney did play there a lot of times for United... *cringes*

Doubt he'll learn, it will be the same thing - no evidence of him learning things like that. Just like playing StEeviE G against pacey players last time out - that turned out great didn't it? lol
At this point I'm not sure if he picks his team half because he actually wants certain players to play as they fit his system and half because of media pressure. There'll be outrage if Wilshere doesn't go, same with some of the "big name" players, so he always picks them and puts them in his squads, even if it means they're useless 90% of the time. Same outrage will be had when Barkley miss-hits a pass or cross - WHY IS THAT EVERTON PIECE OF CRAP PLAYING AND WILSHERE ISN'T OMG etc.

Tbf on him there aren't a great selection of really good English defensive midfielders available. But, a bit like Wenger, he just seems to completely dismiss the importance of the role and at least Wenger appears to do it because he wants more attacking midfielders, Roy just seems to consider it a place to shove someone out of position who he can't fit in elsewhere.

In truth the England job is, apart from the salary of course, a horrendous job - you get little time with the team to really progress them, players drop out during the boring qualifying round only to agitate for a place when a tournament appears (hi John Terry!) and it is difficult to balance between picking players who are on form but new to the setup and selecting a squad that is familiar with each other. Add to that the unrealistic expectations an excitable media pile on and it is poisoned chalice

Roy has done some good things in the role, he has given a lot of young players their debuts and then maintained faith with them when they have gone through their inevitable bad patches. For all I hated his treatment of Barkley when he first included him in the squad, think his continuing to use him last season when in all honesty Ross shouldn't have been close to the squad really helped Ross's self confidence.

But do I think he can hold that faith a touch too blindly at times, poor form is one thing but including players who haven't played in months like he is suggesting he'll do with Wilshere and Shaw is just daft imo and ultimately unfair on the players themselves.
