2024/25 Jack Harrison

There were alot of people advocating signing him permanently at the start of this season, I think we dodged a bullet, doesn`t offer alot and we are far better using that money signing a RW with pace.

….we really need one that has quality and offers genuine threat. I watched Leeds (again) yesterday, Gnonto was hooked early in the 2nd half and Dan James was much more effective but I wouldn’t be overly keen on either.

….in general our loanees have been as mediocre as our permanent signings (fingers crossed Broja, Lindstrom and Mangala buck that trend) but sadly I doubt we can simply send players back because they’re not very good.

I was reminded yesterday of the times we brought in a winger like Deulofeu on loan :(
I think Leeds would be minded to accept his return (and chance getting him out to another club or integrate him into their squad) if we were to tell them he'd be sat on his backside for the next six months at Everton.

….its just an incredible view. Perhaps Harrison is just another very mediocre player Dyche has to select from.

It’s not like Harrison shows any aptitude to go past a defender, he can’t outrun them, he relies on getting the ball in space and delivering. If he showed attacking capability and clearly being stifled then the criticism is justified but I’m afraid he’s just another acquisition that isn’t good enough.

Selection and tactics are Dyche’s remit (and I agree it’s not good) but perhaps our player acquisitions are also to blame. Dyche again criticising our lack of attacking quality in his post-match interview might just be accurate.
I agree that harrison isn't a very good player.

But he's also the most usable example (for the prem) we have that different managers get more out of attacking players. Look at all his attacking stats in the prem at Leeds. They are significantly better than his time at Everton.

Either he's fallen off a cliff ability wise (he's not really at an age that should happen but I guess did come to the club with a significant injury) Or the managers tactics and setups starve all creative/attacking out puts.

Will add. I think the options at fullback are also a problem for both wide players.

Maybe, but his goals / goal contributions are markedly worse here than they were at Leeds (including in prem).
I fear we’ll be saying the same sort of stuff about Ndaiye soon enough, once Dyche had destroyed the best attacking attributes he has. 🤷‍♂️

…his ‘numbers’ here would be lots better had he not skied two into the Upper Gwladys last week from 12 yards out. Regardless of the excuses you make for him, maybe he’s just not very good.

….i remember reading the Leeds fans forum when he joined and the general consensus was of a player who only occasionally turned up for them. Stats can be misleading.

Agree about full backs but it’s also reasonable to turn that on its head and say our full backs have problems with wide players. Blend and partnerships are crucial throughout a team and I’m afraid our transfer policy hasn’t reflected that for a while. I genuinely wonder how many acquisitions are actually watched or whether we look solely at stats and You Tube clips.

Makes me laugh when people just can't see why he scored more at Leeds. Leeds played a gung go all attack style so he had far more space there and far more chances to score. He wasn't necessarily better.

At Everton we play very defensive and rigid so for a player of his limited ability It's very hard to find opportunities to score. He was missing just as many easy chances at Leeds but was just getting much more of them. However Leeds left loads of space at the back and conceded buckets.

Same applies to Iwobi and why his goal/assist return has improved at Fulham where he has more freedom.

Personally think he’s a better player than he’s showing at the moment. Because at the moment he looks like a league one player and not the player I’ve seen in the past.

Hopefully something changes soon.
