Never rated him as a player but had warm feelings for him after he left because he went the right way, club got a great deal and he never piped up with anything.
That documentary on Netflix though saw my estimation of him plummet. He was already a multi-millionaire yet wouldn't agree to cancel his contract which could have saved many folks jobs. Selfish and stupid, like many modern footballers sadly. Wouldn't ever welcome back in any capacity now after that, we're a club that should only want good people in our doors.
Absolute nonsense.
Not running the club into the ground through a series of awful business decisions would have saved many folks jobs. Not taking the entire squad away for a mid season jolly at the same time as announcing the culling of back office jobs might have been seen as less selfish. Rodwell cancelling his contract would not have saved a single job - there was zero interest in doing that. It was just framed that way to try and deflect criticism of those who gave massive contracts to poor players.
Martin Bain, former Chief Exec and the man who made those decisions, walked away with a near £2M payoff after two consecutive relegations and all those decisions. Do you seriously think he was after getting Rodwell out to save the job of Charlotte or Joe in the ticket office?
Roma have already decided not to offer him a contract. Seems remarkably quick to me.
Not really quick. If someone's obviously not of the level required then it's not difficult to see that over a few training sessions.
