Ah, so now its all about whether the individual is in a minority? - So by that definition, here, racism can only be one way as BME individuals only represent 7% of the country.

Personally, if I was Chinese that wouldn't bother me. Same as being called Danny Crumpet in India wouldn't. In fact, I would find it funny - but thats just me.

it aint happening lid, you arent gonna be called crumpet anywhere.

No, why? Listen, Prince Harry called one of his so-called best mates a "[Poor language removed]", yet nothing was done and little said. Jade Goody who has just lost her life to an awful disease is all of a sudden under attack again. This thread was not intended to have everyone who disliked her sympathise, that would be hypocritical, but in the same token this thread was not an excuse for people to speak ill of the dead.

See what you mean but for me, racism depends entirely upon its context. A black football teammate once said to me "Listen white boy, start crossing the balls to my head, not my f-ing knees" as a joke and I found it funny. That wasn't racism to me because there was no intent of racism behind it.

Correctamundo.

And the bile and sheer vitriol with which those words were spoken on BB made it offensive and a bit on racist side.

I'm listening to Jurassic 5 and I'm far too chilled to be discussing this. Boobies anyone?

so if you and a gaggle of harpies is sat chatting nasty things about indian food, and it being the reason they all look like they do (because its not cooked or whatever) then that might lead you to judge negatively the group playing with the negative imagery they brought up? what about purposefully not speaking someones name? 'i cant pronounce it' doesnt cut it - going after her like they did with 'indian' and ganging up like they did, wasn't really good behaviour nor a good example to set to the viewers, their own families, heavens - even their own children. and 'shilpa poppadum' was said repeatedly - specifically when davina interviewed the deceased and an audience member piped in with ''stop saying that'' live on tv.

cowards hide in gangs. but im not specifying who i consider to be cowardly.

Is Jermiane Jackson racist?

Is Danielle Lloyd racist?

Its worth remembering what Racism actually is and its discriminatory or abusive behaviour towards members of another race. For me, Jade Goody certainly never discriminated against, or was abusive against Shilpa? (it is Shilpa Shetty isn't it?).

"White trash" is bordering on abuse though, it certainly carries negative connotations. But maybe thats were the minority thing you mentioned comes into play.

I don't know much about Jade Goody. First time I heard about here was when she announced she wanted to die on television and her marriage after that. Don't know what kind of person she really was. The day before she died there was a newsreport about here on Dutch telly and footage was shown of her, with her two little boys. Don't really care what kind of person she was, but I do sympathize with those two lads, who now face life without their mother. Whatever person she was, I'm sure she was a loving mother more than anything else.

Spot on mate.

Thats still racist because it makes in issue of of your race. Simple as that.

The problem with labelling it racist, and the problem with labelling Jade racist is that its a blanket term which automatically puts you in the same bracket as a fully paid up card cayying member of the BNP or KKK. They're racist too.

Of course any sane person can see the difference.

But you're right, context then comes into play. There's outright racial discrimation and there's making light hearted observations and jokes based on the colour of someones skin. Unfortunatly these days people are so concerned with erradicating the former (and rightfully so) that they end up singling out the latter.

Depends how you term racism. You'll find most definitions resolve around "discrimination", not merely drawing attention to someones race. Thats what people tend to forget.
