I find it a little inaccurate to say that Villa moved him on.

He was a young player that last summer, after a couple of loans to Championship clubs, had 12 months left of his contract.

For him to even consider signing a new contract with Villa, he'd need a decent amount of first team minutes. While Villa had an opportunity to cash in on a player without weakening their squad.

Villa have invested 100 million in Diaby and Bailey. It would be beyond stupid to bench any of them for a Philogene that could leave for free at the end of the season.

If we give younger players plenty of game time it might help convince some more to choose us when having an option to sign for us. Branners braking into the team last season might be a good example of how quickly they can get their career off to a flyer by playing regular football for us rather than sitting on the bench getting minutes here or there, or being loaned out to generate income like Chelsea do with their players (when they aren`t selling hotels to themselves)

…sorry but that’s not how it works. It’s romantic but not reality when points are critical.

Youngsters have to earn their game time, they need to grasp their opportunities. You can’t just give them games and hope they’ll turn out good. Nobody expects them to hit the ground running but they need to show signs that they are adding to the team.
