Transfer Rumour Jadon Philogene

….looks a talent but maybe a few Demarai Gray vibes about him. He’s already 22, Villa moved him on, a couple of loan spells in lower league before moving to Hull for an ‘undisclosed fee’. Perhaps the type you take a chance on when Hull bought him.

How much did Hull sign him for last year? I will once again ask why we didn’t bring him in then.

The fee was believed to be in the region of £5m. I think it's pretty clear why we and just about every other team did not identify him earlier. He's played only 3 games in the PL (no goals), and, prior to his breakout year, he only had 5 goals across two seasons (48 games) in the Championship. Last season he scores 12 in 32 games for Hull and suddenly he's on everyone's radar. It's probably difficult to identify goal scorers until they actually start scoring goals on some level.

More likely, its neither.

Sadly true, but I don't think we've went in for either without legitimate hope we'd get them.

Unlike the time we bid less than Newcastle for Shearer when he'd already agreed a move there

No smoke without fire I think, the fact we're linked with Minteh & Philogene and not Eddie Nketiah for £500m or Matt Ritchie says there's at least a clear direction we're aiming for.

I saw him play quite a few times for Cardiff and was a big fan of his, clearly has a lot of footballing ability and looks like he's started delivering more consistently at Hull so if he continues on that trajectory he could be a very good player.

Tbf I think competition for young players is gonna become really tough now. With these PSR rules starting to pinch at a lot of clubs. Not many teams now will want to spunk huge amounts of money on big name players or will be able to afford it so any team below the big 6 will be fighting over these young players aswell as teams from abroad. Also doesn’t help the teams with the money also stockpile these young players and charge stupid amounts for them when selling. The system is totally rigged and I can’t see it getting any better without a wage cap and maybe a spending cap on transfers. The same amount for every club in the league to maybe promote a bit more competition.
