Confirmed Signing Jake O'Brien

It's good to see there's a realism abroad about this lad. Expecting a Branthwaite type performance from him is not on.

We have to understand that Branthwaite is an exceptional once in a generation talent who's come through in the space of two years to being one of the best CBs in the country and will go on to be one of the best in Europe if not the world. He's that good.

If we get a Tarkowski-O'Brien CB partnership this season it'll have to be treated as a work in progress, as Tarkowski uses his experience and teaches O'Brien the PL ropes.
Tbf Dave when we started last season I don't think any of us expected a Branthwaite like performance from Branthwaite

Couldn't be worse than Michael Keane was the feeling.
It would have been hard for anyone to predict he would be worth 70m plus in just 12 months.

We will have three centre halves that can be played, how is that stockpiling.

We sold Onana last week. We then sign O Brien just a few days later, we brought in Lindstrom just after selling Onana.

We sell and then we buy.
We sold Godfrey and Dobbin before we signed players.
It is clear and obvious.

We still have a tiny squad there are several positions that need cover but we can't afford to buy or couldn't until Onana left...I think that is generally accepted.

Because we'll have 5... why are you projecting loans/sales before something happens?

I am not projecting anything.

It is absolutely clear that Keane and Holgate in particular have no future at Everton.
Holgate is clearly not in the plans for the future and the signing of O Brien means Keane will at best be fourth choice.

Contractually they are on the books but in recent years we have had a series of expensive signings from previous managers who are contracted to the club but are not really part of the squad.

To be fair to Michael Keane, although never playing last season he was at least on the bench for nearly every game, just hardly ever used.

I dont think your memory is correct there.

There were a number of posters expecting Branthwaite to come in and be good.

Steady on my son, he's had a breakout season and still has plenty to prove before we anoint him as the new Franco Baresi.

God bless

Yeah, but the reviews of Branthwaite from Holland were suggesting held matured into a very fine player.

TBH, if we were in a position to do it, if we could retain Branthwaite Ild like to see O'Brien continue his progress at Lyon.
