2024/25 Jake O'Brien

Yes 100%.

As I said multiple times, he did seem like a dud -- based on Dyche not using him.

You were pro Dyche and I also felt that defence first would see us stay up (it worked until it didnt). Logically that type of manager would "know a defender"...

...or be expected to youd think?

Im definitely pro Thelwell with 3 points on this:

1: Mangala, OBrien and Nuamah were all Lyon players with their owner thinking hed be our owner. Logic dictates that he'd send his players over to help keep us up and improve their value with premier league games.

2: The Maupay (Thelwell didnt sign him as reported by itk posters) deal and also the Beto deals seem to be sticks to beat Thelwell with -- no matter the reality.

3: Under Dyche the signing was indeed a "dud" no matter the player as he was excluded from the pitch. Clearly under Moyes he looks a similar player to Branthwaite in terms of wanting him to develop and believing he could develop into an elite player.

Branthwaite and O'Brien as a future pairing strikes me as being pretty frightening for opposing centre forwards.

Looks great business and questions need to be asked of Dyche.

wipe dyche out of everton history zat!

Astonishing Dyche didn't play him. Or, has Moyes suddenly turned him into a good player?

Either way, diabolical we've been carting out the likes of Keane and Young before him.
Very few people would have been calling for him to play right back though, and him playing there might not have worked in dyches system. I never really understood why he didn’t play at the start of the season but to be fair we still haven’t seen him play centre half so maybe it wasn’t as mad it seemed.

Cost us the second goal though as he hesitate rather than getting to the ball first. Understandable though.
I actually thought that was another result of his reluctance to stop rattling into a forward and handing a pen away. Maybe if he gets a firmer challenge on Jones he shuts down the danger...or hands them a pen, but Branthwaite clears it and Mykolenko doesn't do his job at the back post.

Patto would have sniffed the danger out in Liverpools half.

Yeah. I think Myko needed to close down better for sure. O'Brien was trying very hard not to give a pen away, but he probably should have gone in with a firmer challenge. I think it was a bit of a fluky goal that they won due to their pressure. It wasn't as bad as some make it. I'm more concerned with the 1st. We let him win a free header and Pickford left rooted. We need to clean that up.

Tarkowski flat footed for that. He should have cleared that header and Mac allister out with it.

Wasn't expecting it was he. Poor lapse in concentration in an otherwise good performance.

I still don't really know what Pickford was doing though. Its a good header but come on, you've got to be diving for that. I really think he lost his bearings.

I dont really blame Pickford. It was a freak goal. The ball came off that cry arse's hexagonal shaped head at an angle no one could anticipate.
