I met Beattie on distant shores when he was on the payroll.

Contrary to what people presume he must have been like, "not arsed" etc. He was indeed a fine young man who was proud to pull on a blue shirt and be our number nine.

I think he couldnt hanlde the pressure personaly, there was so much expected of him and he couldnt handle it, we hadnt had a decent striker to shout about for years and when he came in for a bit of wedge there was so much expected of him. In fairness he did have one good season scoring i think about 12, before his chances dryed up.

I always had a bit of a soft spot for him.

I think he will do well at stoke or Hull.
