Where does he play and who does he replace?
Forest used him mostly as a 6, but he's said himself he can play the box-to-box role too. Interesting that this mirrors Onana, who played mostly as a 6 last season but can work as an 8 as well.

Prior to the window our best midfield trio was Iwobi, Doucoure and one of Allan, Davies, Gbamin or Gomes. This was a bit underwhelming so Lampard often only picked two of them and McGyvered the formation to accommodate it.

Now we can pick any three from Iwobi, Onana, Garner, Gana and Doucoure. Whatever trio you settle on is better than before. Plus our ability to rotate / substitute is better now too. This means we can field a 433 or a 352 and not be carrying a passenger in CM.

Plus Gbamin and Gomes are now away on loan.

Never seen him play. Did Forest not try to sign him?
Similar to what others said, a mate of mine who's a United fan told me the following:

- Forest wanted him early in the window on loan.
- United not interested in another loan and also wanted to have a look at him.
- Forest went elsewhere.
- Highly rated by United fans and utter bemusement as to why they have sold him and kept the likes of McTominay
