Agreed.Nothing wrong with having a player who can play multiple positions
I don’t believe @davek is fishing here.
If Garner is a more reliable and competent right back than injury plagued Patterson then it is a no brainer.
As long as we bring in a midfielder to replace him.
Many's the time when players just click into a position and their career path is changed forever. He played 1 full game for us there due to the fact everyone was injured and Holgate/Godfrey are pure pony.
He's also played the majority of his U21s as a CM and only just played at RB on 3 games in this tournament as they've only got 1 RB in the squad...and is probably better on the ball.
Iwobi has played more league games at RB than Garner.
We need an actual RB that's fit. It should be Paterson/new RB as 1st choice battling it out, Coleman 2nd.
Garner just like Holgate and Godfrey are "no other options"
Agreed.
We need a neo-Moyesian period at the club now (never thought I'd type that!). He bought and developed players to adapt to a number of positions and it sood us in good stead during the peniless Kenwright era when he owned the club.

The lad has recently stated on the official site how much he enjoyed the change at RB and is interested in playing there as a starter.
He brought in Philip Neville who played DM, RB, LB for United and England.
Can't think of anyone else apart from Lescott who played more than 1 position and even then it was for 1 season cos he was left footed.
Ofv the top of my head: didn't he switch Unsworth to LB and Fellaini from a DM into a striker? He brought in Philip Neville who played DM, RB, LB for United and England.

He’s not fishing, he’s just got a certain agenda100% fishing
That's the same as saying he wants the position. He said he wanted more games after being out injured most of the season and would play anywhere.
Having him as 3rd choice RB isn't a bad idea...
Having him as 3rd choice RB cos we've given Coleman a year deal and have an injury prone Patterson (who you love) is a bad idea.
I still hes a natural midfielder but he can fill in at full backAgreed.

Dave likes to think of himself as an iconoclast. He just picks a position that will provoke the most ire. Look at his shifting position on boards, owners, chairmen etc... It's boring. He’s not fishing, he’s just got a certain agenda
We need Alan Harper and Kevin Richardson and then all positions are covered except goalkeeper!!!So we'd then need 2 CMs, LB, CB, 2 CFs
It's the whole "Iwobi can play central midfield" argument.
He can...but you'd actually want a player specific to that role cos he wouldn't play there for any other club in the league
Oh to have another Alan Harper on the books. I think he played every position except keeper and never looked out of place.Agreed.
