2022/23 James Garner

Dyche needs to be brave and trust Onana in front of the back 4 and then let Garner progress the ball next to him. If we can add a decent third midfielder that would be an ok line up with Gana and Doucoure in reserve.

I don’t think we’ll see this until next season though as Gueye seems to be his go to holding midfielder at the moment and I doubt he’s changing that at this stage.

Big call from Dyche to drop Onana for Garner though and it’s paid off last two games.

I knew when I saw this guy playing for Forest he would make a good signing for us. I always said he would come good after his injury and a bit of game time. As others have said if we can just get that 3rd midfielder to add to him and Onana we could have a decent little unit in there.

Same thinking as you both.

We need an attacking player in the summer to add to the Onana + Garner pairing. We seem to be mentioned with Alex Scott articles for a while now...also Ndiaye.

Doucoure and Gana moved to the bench/ used in rotation.

Patto, Garner and Onana are the future of this team and I would optimistically throw Branthwaite into that list

CB: Branthwaite 20
RB: Patterson 21
MF: Onana 21
MF: Garner 22
LW: McNeil 23

We could easily start 5 under 23 players with Branthwaite back.

Thelwell needs to keep growing the group.

With Garner he's going to be the Hargreaves/Carrick type to keep things ticking over and moving the ball forward...of course he can also drive forwards as well.

Thats a hard player to find, especially an English one..a very good signing.

Keep up the good work lad.

Avoid the company of Davies and Holgate and keep focusing on developimg on your all round CM game.

This club idolises defensive midfielders that are physical but hardly value the significance of a player in CM that has a vision and forward thinking creativity.

Since Gareth Barry, I don't believe we've had a proper CM who think about a forward pass instead of lunging for tackles only.

I agree with the Darren Gibson shouts , people have a tendency to forget how much of an impact he made when he was fit , unfortunately very delph like in his injuries at Everton. But I feel garner has a similar profile to his game but just like onana as they're both early in their careers they could morph or evolve in what position or type of midfielder is best suited for them

Shame we missed out on Gibbs-White and that forest could possibly stay up now.

I have Yank bias and, thus far in his career he's been more of a box-to-box guy than a true attacking midfielder, but this 20-year-old former England U-18 captain on a relegation-threatened Valencia team might fit the bill:

I'd be very surprised if we're on his radar TBH

It just shows you how bad our finances are - getting blown out the water, unable to compete with a newly promoted team for a player just finished a loan in the championship.

Would have been a great signing, attacking creative central midfielder would make a huge difference to this squad.

Big call this Sir.
I hope you are even 70% right. 🤞
Fair enough tommye, but Garner like Bracewell just gets on with the job and does it well, keeps the ball moving and the attack flowing while not making mistakes and that alone ( not making mistakes) is a virtue in this squad where far too many are made game after game. His attributes, I feel, will speak for themselves in games to come.

Remember my dad telling my mum he would leave her in a heartbeat for Paul Bracewell.
I hope I feel the same about Jimmy G
