2022/23 James Garner

The fact that he looks like a legitimately well rounded talent is huge for me. The fact that he also doesn’t look out of place in a Ride or Die Yoloswag Balls to the Wall midfield also has me very excited about him. He actually can play footy, get stuck in and not roasted for pace every five seconds. If someone comes in for a silly bid for Onana, we aren’t necessarily screwed.

We need to play Onana + Garner together.

Its the pairing that can take the team up a notch.

Gana is the one who should make way although i think thats more likely next season. 34 in September and a good option to come on for the last 20mins of games to press the opposition to death.

I can see the angle of keeping Gana in the lineup as he is playing at a high level and has loads of experience. I do think both Garner and Onana need to see more time on the pitch together and Gana should be rotated with Onana as opposed to Gana just starting every game.

Dyche needs to be brave and trust Onana in front of the back 4 and then let Garner progress the ball next to him. If we can add a decent third midfielder that would be an ok line up with Gana and Doucoure in reserve.

I don’t think we’ll see this until next season though as Gueye seems to be his go to holding midfielder at the moment and I doubt he’s changing that at this stage.

Big call from Dyche to drop Onana for Garner though and it’s paid off last two games.

I knew when I saw this guy playing for Forest he would make a good signing for us. I always said he would come good after his injury and a bit of game time. As others have said if we can just get that 3rd midfielder to add to him and Onana we could have a decent little unit in there.
