2024/25 James Garner

He's not RB Davo... he's doing a job at the mo,but he'd be banging on the managers door he's if was playing there all the time.

Even today I kept clocking him naturally drifting inside and leaving space in behind.

Flies under the radar at time but he's a valuable member of team.
Not an Everton starting CMF. Not for me.

RB is where he can do a good job though, so that's where he'll get his games.

Dixon starting is mad, he’s barely started at u21s at times.

Like the lad a lot, think he’s one of very few youth players who have that ‘chance’. But he’s light years from premier league level right now.

He starts these last three games over Young we don’t get 5 points.
I disagree. He has pace and athleticism. He just needs experience.

He's a PL player in the making.

Not his position but had a decent game and perhaps he will make the position his through to the transfer window. However, I worry about his development and every game out of the middle will make it harder for him to reclaim his place.

I don't really see it like that.

He's had 18 months of playing at CM with some good spells of form and also a few poor games.

At this period there's numbers in CM so he isn't needed there while he very much is needed at RB due to the hideous recruitment and decision making in that position.

He played 5-6 games in a row for England under 21s to win a major tournament there.

End of the season Gana and Doucs will I'm sure be released and who knows if Mangala will justify being signed for 15m + so there very much is a long term position still in CM.

He's a good pro and team player so I think he'll realise it's needs must currently at RB.

He knew exactly how to handle Joelinton today, that's for sure.

He was composed and always looked to play out from the back if there was a pass on; overlapped to give Harrison an option; and...in what seems to be the first time in ages...we had a player at RB who got back behind the ball after an Everton attack broke down in the opposition half.

I've been saying it for ages about Garner: he's way more of an asset played on the right hand side of a defence than in MF; and he's certainly a better RB than any of the other pretenders we have who get games out there. That's because he's an intelligent player, and intelligent players can be put just about anywhere in a team and do a job.

He'll do - and then some - until next summer when we really must get a specialist in and finally see out the door Coleman and Young.

The cross for Doucoure was a beauty too. Shame he was offside.

Most of those things didn't happen, but you just saw anyone not named Patterson at right back so deemed him the next Cafu regardless

On this seasons showings only, our best RB. Mind you, our best performances right back last season came from Godfrey.

Tough call. I think if we went back to Gana and Garner sitting, with the current front 4 of them, we’d look after the ball much better.

If Myko was fit today and Young would have played RB, would have been interesting to see if Garner even played.

Can Garner become a decent PL RB quicker than Dixon? Probably?? I like him there. He has a wicked flat cross on him which is completely negated by playing centrally. Given all wide attackers nowadays play inverted (😢), this is important.

It was brilliant. Pace and right into the space Doucoure was moving into. Just a matter of guiding it from that point.

It'll be interesting to see the extent of his attacking play when we play a team like Ipswich and we can afford to get him forward a lot more than today.
At the very least we've now got a few options there.

The worry I have is that it becomes the default rather than us looking at a credible long term solution.
