Big clubs and small clubs have to score in the same league...is there some difference in your world mate?

Of course, there is a difference in expectation. Some players are just better suited to playing without the pressure that comes from playing for a big club.

It's bizarre mate. I genuinely can't comprehend why anyone would be so pessimistic about us.

It's like a syndrome of some sort. I think the bodyguards of former US Presidents tended to have it: hanging up their earpieces and sunglasses when their man retires. They cant summon up the same allegiance to another President.

Stabbed us in the back half a dozen times?

Go on list them.

1. He ran down his contract so denying us any compensation from the richest club in the world
2. He turned up to the Anfield derby season before last knowing he'd lose
3. He made a derisory initial bid for Baines whilst still employed by us
4. He tapped up his entire coaching staff whilst still employed here
5. He forced us to accept Gingerism for 11 years
6. He bid £28m for Felli and Baines but ended up paying £27.5m for Felli alone
7. He pushed the "plucky little Everton tag" for 11 years and continued that with his chat about Baines and Felli being held back whilst at Man Ure

I could go on but I can't be bothered

It's sad how you've become all misty eyed over Martinez, and let that affect your normally better judgement on kenwright. Evertonians like you may well accept it, I'm sure McCarthy can help fire us to our 10th place finish, that you've already stated you're not bothered about.
I want more than that, I expect more than that, and the business we have done is far from "perfect". Next summer when Lukaku goes back, and we're stuck with a 30/31 year old striker leading our line (kone) we will regret wasting all that money on McCarthy, when we should have brought a striker/more creative player.

Martinez/Kenwright have been stupid enough to spend more money on a championship player, than Spurs did for Eriksen. McCarthy was never worth more than 8. Given we only got 27/28 for Fellaini, we should not have paid more than 10.
We have been mugged, but some fans will lap it up, just like home draws to West Brom or Stevenage, if you tell them it's a new "attacking style". We invented attacking football long before Kenwright and Martinez came. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, ponder on that for a bit, before judging business as perfect.

There's no real point moaning now. We can't do anything about it and I think everyone has made their opinions clear on the McCarthy deal now. Might as well save the moaning for if/when it doesn't rule out and you have the best possible grounds to complain. It's pointless arguing at this point, I've come to think, as everyone's just guessing how it'll work out and won't budge from their opinions until they see him in an Everton shirt for a decent amount of games.

What we know is the Wigan fans who've watched him every week seem to think they've got a very good deal, generally and on the face of it, the fee does seem excessive. We know he's a tidy player though with good premier league experience in whom Martinez has a massive amount of faith, demonstrated clearly by the massive wedge he's spent on him. We don't know what'll happen, but if he's the Scottish Joe Allen, we have every right to fume about the price tag. Until then, I think we can just be happy we have an alternative to Osman at centre mid.

No one has said they will be happy with 10th place, a lot have said they would accept it if we see progress in our style, youngsters added to the first team and are genuinely confident it's the start of a new era.

I get the feelin lads like you would rather be able to give it an 'I told you so' then enjoy success.

I few have said they would accept 10th place, or falling down the league, I never would. I agree with you whole heartedly on progressing of style. That to me doesn't mean looking to win the possession stats though, but playing football in an attacking vein, trying to score goals, playing with some tempo. Some people confuse with possession amongst the back 4 in your own half, as attacking football.

I would rather we were successful mate all day long. I like Martinez, I think he's handled himself very well so far. I worry he's too nice a guy. I think he has probably been a bit too keen to get McCarthy in, and has led to him paying too much.
However, even amongst the questioning of him, I have to say, good luck to McCarthy, and wish him all the best.

It is a bit rich, considering I am one of the few posters on here who believes that we can finish in the top 4, and am actively encouraging us to go for it, to say I am waiting to snipe back. If Lukaku can score us some goals, we can really be up there competing!

A beautiful pure green sea of rep says most people LOVE me :)

I'm just waiting for how you'll justify us falling down the table under Martinez whilst scoring fewer goals.

It will be Moyes' fault somehow.

There it is: you're actually waiting on Everton to do badly so you can point the finger.

How bizarre.

What you say is fair, and I agree with it, aside from the bit of "no point here". This is a thread about his signing, and I think people should be allowed to give their opinion. My opinion is, he's a decent player, who we have overpaid for. I think that's legitmate enough. Other may think we have the next Kaka in our midfield, that's their opinion too. As long as we get behind the team, who cares?

Possession amongst the back four is a starting point though. We're only just out of August and people are screaming we're not playing triangles in the final third already. A change in style was never going to happen over night. It's quite sensible to start at the back and other then two stuffy goals at Norwich we've looked pretty solid.

I'm as concerned as anyone with Martinez's time at Wigan but Everton's a different animal to most clubs and I genuinely feel after 6 months we'll be progressing. It looks like he's already pushing deadwood on or out of the first 11.

Happened like clockwork every game we lost under Moyes for literally the entire time I've been on this site.

You've done it too, Dave as have many others on here.

Let's just all jib it off and celebrate no more Osman in midfield.

That's what makes me laugh about him. He was the absolute worst for slating the manager before. He is now so defensive for people who do a much milder equivalent of what he was doing.

Do you not think there is a difference in people slating a manager who was here for eleven years and was given the time and patience to build his own team and stamp his authority properly, to slating a manager who has been here for what?? two minutes?? Moyes was here for eleven years that's a long time for people to come to their own reasonable conclusions to why they liked or loathed him. Why doesn't Martinez deserve the same time and patience??

It saddens me that certain fans are still rimming the backside of man utd's moyes whilst doing their very best to put down the new man of the club they are supposed to be supporters of.
