James McCarthy

It's sad how you've become all misty eyed over Martinez, and let that affect your normally better judgement on kenwright. Evertonians like you may well accept it, I'm sure McCarthy can help fire us to our 10th place finish, that you've already stated you're not bothered about.
I want more than that, I expect more than that, and the business we have done is far from "perfect". Next summer when Lukaku goes back, and we're stuck with a 30/31 year old striker leading our line (kone) we will regret wasting all that money on McCarthy, when we should have brought a striker/more creative player.

Martinez/Kenwright have been stupid enough to spend more money on a championship player, than Spurs did for Eriksen. McCarthy was never worth more than 8. Given we only got 27/28 for Fellaini, we should not have paid more than 10.
We have been mugged, but some fans will lap it up, just like home draws to West Brom or Stevenage, if you tell them it's a new "attacking style". We invented attacking football long before Kenwright and Martinez came. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, ponder on that for a bit, before judging business as perfect.

No one has said they will be happy with 10th place, a lot have said they would accept it if we see progress in our style, youngsters added to the first team and are genuinely confident it's the start of a new era.

I get the feelin lads like you would rather be able to give it an 'I told you so' then enjoy success.

In 5 years we'll look back and think "what an incredible signing".

The lad has played an incredible amount of games for someone so young as well as a good number of caps.

He'll be the key figure in our system, and our squad seems to have fixed the age issue.

HaHa...'all those games' too.

Contemptible the way you'd back a former manager who stabbed us in the back half a dozen times than our present one.

Takes all sorts I suppose.

Stabbed us in the back half a dozen times?

Go on list them.

Whoa there mr angry!

Who says McCarthy was over-priced? You can quote Eriksen without knowing diddly squat about his wages etc but I can respond with Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson.

Also as with what's been said elsewhere we got an extra £4m out of Man Ure and an incredible £6m out of West Brom for Anichebe. Overall I just don't see there's anything worth shouting about here*

*aside from the fact that you're chatting out of your hole as McCarthy is actually a great player and has put in some cracking performances over the last 12 months. Have you even seen him play?

They'd rather see Everton beaten to prove a point.

Funny old world, but there we have it.

Said he was seriously considering his options whilst negotiating with United.
Told us he wanted to help the new manager hit the ground running/easy transition - plotted to take our players
Offered pisstake valuations for Baines and Fellaini
Told the world our new manager would realise how Everton worked eventually

...sorry, will four stabs in the back do?

It makes me laugh on here, the lad hasn't kicked a ball for us yet, and some have already decided he's sh1te only because he's come from a relegated Wigan team. Give the lad a chance, he may be a gem, but it seems he is on a hiding to nothing just because of the fee. First and foremost he now plays for Everton he should be given everyones full backing as should other players who don our shirt.

Don't beat yourself up about it Kev. I don't think a few 'experts' on here spouting off represent the majority of the Everton support (yes, that's SUPPORT for the hard of hearing).

I think there's a few on here who would be devastated if actually went and won something...

It probably comes across as more angry than it needs to be lad. It's a fair point on wages, but I think we could have got better quality for the fee involved, or indeed got him for less.
I appreciate Liverpool massively overpaid for Henderson/Allen, however we can't really afford to make those mistakes. Next summer we are going to need a striker in (if Lukaku leaves) and we will be in the same predicament as this summer. A part of that, is going to be exacerbated by The desire to pay top dollar for McCarthy.

I have seem him play a lot, and he is a decent player. I like him, but he is not worth anything like the money we have paid. I would rather see us spending money on players from the continent.
