He is just a kid still , hopefully he will become a man in Everton Blue and grow into the best possible player.

No offence to Wigan fans intended (there will be some reading this thread), but McCarthy is now at a club with technically superior players and it could of been a case of him being held back at Wigan by what was around him.

It wouldn't be the first time in football that a player has been more advanced than the rest of his team.

Yeah with players like Kone, Alcaraz and Robles, not to mention all our coaching staff, around him it will be a world away from playing for Wigan.

Robles, Alcaraz and Kone haven't started a league game. The coaching staff doesn't support your opinion either, as they are all working with different players.

But it's okay, keep thinking we're Wigan reincarnated. You'll be backtracking come the end of the season.

I think in his mid-20s, with inflation and the way the market is going, we could be looking at a player worth double what we paid.
I'd say that's a fair bet, which makes fears about the fee somewhat redundant. With the way prices seem to rise each year you would at least get your money back in a few years even if he didn't progress as hoped.

That's the beauty of signing good, young players at his age. It's an investment.

That's also why some questioned the logic in spending 5/6 million on a 30 year old striker. That's dead money that we won't see back. OK if you've got backers who support the manager who will chuck you another 6 million to replace him in a couple of years, not so great when your transfer funds are always generated by player sales!!

The way I see it, Moyes was desperate to get Fellaini in having no one else in and had to, in effect, pay our shortfall with Wigan - and as has been pointed out elsewhere, Fellaini saved Everton money by putting the transfer request in. So we have a young player already costing 12-13M who'll be sold eventually in the fullness of time for a fee reflecting what we paid for him as well as how well he does for us.

It's pretty rare this club gets any business done right; on this occasion they played it perfectly.

It's sad how you've become all misty eyed over Martinez, and let that affect your normally better judgement on kenwright. Evertonians like you may well accept it, I'm sure McCarthy can help fire us to our 10th place finish, that you've already stated you're not bothered about.
I want more than that, I expect more than that, and the business we have done is far from "perfect". Next summer when Lukaku goes back, and we're stuck with a 30/31 year old striker leading our line (kone) we will regret wasting all that money on McCarthy, when we should have brought a striker/more creative player.

Martinez/Kenwright have been stupid enough to spend more money on a championship player, than Spurs did for Eriksen. McCarthy was never worth more than 8. Given we only got 27/28 for Fellaini, we should not have paid more than 10.
We have been mugged, but some fans will lap it up, just like home draws to West Brom or Stevenage, if you tell them it's a new "attacking style". We invented attacking football long before Kenwright and Martinez came. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, ponder on that for a bit, before judging business as perfect.

The worst thing is mate, a "Wigan" mentality seems to have filtered through to some of our fans. Happily accepting mid table, as long as we play an (allegedly) attacking brand of football.

It makes me laugh on here, the lad hasn't kicked a ball for us yet, and some have already decided he's sh1te only because he's come from a relegated Wigan team. Give the lad a chance, he may be a gem, but it seems he is on a hiding to nothing just because of the fee. First and foremost he now plays for Everton he should be given everyones full backing as should other players who don our shirt.
