James McCarthy

I like his interview, obviously, to be honest with you, im delighted we have him, and obvisouly he will need to work hard, and and obviously its a great move for the lad to be honest with you.

We're buying potential, he is still very young and already a relatively experienced premier league & International. I'll admit from the outset I'm biased and think he's gonna be class. Probably wont see the best of him for another couple of years. It took a long time for Trappatoni to trust him and start him for Ireland but now hes one of the first names on the team sheet.

For me he has it all, he is good technically, good passer and can score from midfield.

As much as I didn't want McCarthy, you can't bring in a manager and then turn around and question his judgement on players, so I understand why the club have agreed to pay the fee.

Now that he's here I'm interested to see what he's capable of.

I will get behind him now he's here. But we have massively overpaid for him. It could come back to bite us if we can't afford to keep Lukaku on next season, Martinez will only have himself to blame.

As others have said, he is not a Hollywood player, you won't see him spraying 50 yard diagonals and scoring from 40 but that is not what this signing is about.

People who are saying we have overspent in teams of raw ability are correct, however, James is more than just a player for Everton, he's there to show the other players how to play the Martinez way! (quick one touch passing, with speed).

I think he will be our transitional player, he will come towards the CB's and look to receive the ball and turn goal-ward then pass it out quickly to get our attacks started. This is something we have lacked so far, because our current CM's are neither energetic or mobile (Fellaini, Gibson).

Like Phil Neville was there to show the other players how to play the David Moyes way?

Delighted we signed him. I think many Irish blues will have watched a lot more games for us obviously but also for Wigan to see how good he was and bar a few average to invisible performances, probably the lack of confidence side thats been mentioned, he has always been far more influential in defence and attack than a player of his age normally is.

Will be at the Aviva Friday night hoping he helps to a win against Sweden!

The way I see it, Moyes was desperate to get Fellaini in having no one else in and had to, in effect, pay our shortfall with Wigan - and as has been pointed out elsewhere, Fellaini saved Everton money by putting the transfer request in. So we have a young player already costing 12-13M who'll be sold eventually in the fullness of time for a fee reflecting what we paid for him as well as how well he does for us.

It's pretty rare this club gets any business done right; on this occasion they played it perfectly.

I don't see how you're relating the two, I don't think Lukaku is for sale.

I'm glad you'll get behind him while he's here, as that means you'll support Everton players, as you should being a blue.

And as for the money, yes it's a chunk, but it's the going rate at the minute. It's what we'd have paid for most midfielders and this one does have premiership experience.

You are right, and also Groucho Marx is a legend.

Of all the players we could have plundered from Wigan at the last minute, with a hint of desperation, I'm glad it was him. Yes £13m is a little bit over the top, but in my opinion it was worth paying a premium to try and guarantee this transition season isn't a write off
