Haven´t watched him much, but for me he seems to be in the deep lying playmaker mould, i.e. spreads passes around from the middle of the park a la Carrick, Gibson. Is that a fair assessment?

i have watched him a few times for wigan against city, utd,US and a few more and he seems a quicker version of Gibson with fast feet lays the ball off to the playmakers so yes you are right in my opinion, going to be a great signing...Going to have the futures best cm with him and barkley.wow

im excited about this we over paid but its history ( hopefully we not reminded every bad game he has of how much we paid)

firstly has prem exp( this is huge esp for a team like ours we havnt got time for him to settle in to the pace)

secondly has played for RM before knows the system, knows GIBBO enough to gel

really think the DG/JMC pairing can work plus both hav the ability to inject a bit of life into our current slumbered passing

As many of you have pointed out, the tempo of our play have been far too low so far this season. This, obviously, means we are constantly playing against defences who have plenty of time to organise themselves.

The point of JMc as I understand it is to speed things up.

He played well for a relegated Wigan side lads. I mean, they went down. Floundered. Sank, like a ship, held up by lips too loose.

Think about how well he's going to play in the sixth best team in the country! With all the better players we have! Just like Kone has!

As others have said, he is not a Hollywood player, you won't see him spraying 50 yard diagonals and scoring from 40 but that is not what this signing is about.

People who are saying we have overspent in teams of raw ability are correct, however, James is more than just a player for Everton, he's there to show the other players how to play the Martinez way! (quick one touch passing, with speed).

I think he will be our transitional player, he will come towards the CB's and look to receive the ball and turn goal-ward then pass it out quickly to get our attacks started. This is something we have lacked so far, because our current CM's are neither energetic or mobile (Fellaini, Gibson).

The only positive I can take from this deal is that he's better than Leon Osman and improves the squad for that reason.

The problem is that we could have paid £13m on hundreds of other players who would have replaced Leon Osman and improved the squad more IMO.

He's a decent player and I'll get behind him, but he has to stop producing the non-stop 6/10 performances he did at Wigan when I saw him and step up to the big leagues.

I don't care how much he cost . Club think they can afford it so fine by me . Coleman,Gibson and McCarthy ,the Irish trilogy !. Welcome jimmy , think you're going to do great for us. Coybs

From what I've seen of this lad, he looks to be a good signing.

Ideal replacement for Osman, who has looked way off the boil so far this season.

Watch the highlights of him against us on Youtube he controled that game

I give everyone a chance, looking forward to watching him hope he proves the doubters wrong

Better transfer than Kone, but it isn't saying much. If plan is to build team around loaned players I would much more get somebody like Oriol Romeu, especially if there would be a chance (I think) for a permanent deal down the road. Or some of Sissokos/Diarras available around the world.

Of course I will get behind him, but 13m spent on him is a disgrace of epic proportions. As is 20m paid to Wigan in total during the summer. And selling Fellaini for 27.5 doesn't make me feel any better - if we are selling for good prices, doesn't mean we have to overpaid for players or allow Dave Whelan to keep us hostage.
