McCarthy has, quietly, been one of the most impressive performers in the Premier League this season. He has inspired a raft of one-liners on the Internet -- "two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered by water; the other third is covered by James McCarthy" -- becoming a cult hero in the mould of a pasty, ginger Chuck Norris. That is no surprise to anyone who saw him play at Wigan, and it will be a delight to everyone who helped nurture him at Hamilton that he has fulfilled his potential so abundantly.

I hope he spends the next 10 years in the royal blue. Potential future captain for sure. As much as Stones, Barkley, Lukaku, and Deulofeu make us all excited and giggly, McCarthy is only a few years older and has wonderful potential himself.
He'll either be a top class defensive midfielder, or a world class box to box midfielder depending on if the goals ever come. Even if they don't, I love him.

Any idea how much Rodwell's move was his own choice? Was never sure if he pushed for the move or if he was a young player that Moyes didn't rate and he was sold to fund our bank loan.

I think the offer from city was ridiculous and too good to turn down. I imagine jaws dropping at finch farm when the bid came in
Feel a bit sorry for the lad if that is the case - or as sorry as you can for someone making so much money!
But money isn't everything and iirc he was a passionate blue - doesn't he have an Everton tattoo?
...I reported when he signed the view from one of the Wigan 1st team coaches I know - said McCarthy is the ultimate pro, totally dedicated to the game. He expects the same commitment from others that he gives himself and isn't afraid to say when somebody isn't pulling their weight. Top lad as well apparently. FEC (Future Everton Captain).

And not necessarily a bad choice for Rodders.
We'll never know for sure, but that may have been his only chance at a big contract with his injury record.
