Besic was MOTM in the WBA game and there's no way he should lose his place at Palace.

Very talented footballer, but my heart's in my mouth every time he lunges in for a challenge.

If McCarthy is fit enought to start, I'd drop Barry.

The problem is rarely the tackle. It's the response from the opponent, and the reaction to that response from the ref. The majority of Besic's tackles are clean, and much stronger than your average prem tackle. But they're usually well timed and measured. Rarely rash or reckless. Problem is, prem players don't like it up em, and see these as excessive, and the ref will invariably award a free-kick. The ones where he does mistime them usually result in a yellow card.

Reckon we'll just have to accept it. He's not a dirty player, far from it. But he tackles how we'd all like to tackle, but that's just simply not allowed anymore.

the fear, frustration and even the booing of that sub comes from martinez's absolute refusal to drop, sub or even rotate barry, if it looke like he was willing to do any of these things and that besic would be eased in to replace barry, then people would be less vocal and more supportive of the situation, as it stands the manager is looking far too stuck in his ways both with selections and tactics

I do get that but when we have been more often than not chasing a result this season, the thought of keeping Besic on the pitch isnt one that excites me with 20 mins to go. Barry, for all his difficulties this season, does have subtle bits of creativity to his play, whether its a switch or a reverse pass. Besic is clueless offensively which, I say again, is not his job and is due to his inexperience too.

Barry and McCarthy is the way to go in my opinion with Besic coming in for McCarthy and Gibson (if ever fit) offering the alternative to Barry.

we disagree on who is the better player going forward, I'd say besic looks far superiour, but besides any of that, the crux of the issue is just how rigid martinez is with maccarthy and barry, now with mccarthy this is less of an issue as he is a top player, but even against arsenal this season when he was playing with a virus, and obviously struggling, but the manager refused to disrupt that partnership and it cost us. My main point is that the manager needs to be more proactive, and barry is at the moment the biggest representation of his refusal to do that

I think thats a very reasonable point mate.

I do think though that his reliance on Barry and McCarthy is based on how brilliant they were last season rather than Martinez just being stubborn for the sake of it.

We might win a game with Jimmy back, get Barry dropped out for Jimmy and rotate them/Besic when necessary to ensure they aren't all sick notes for the upcoming vital part of our season. We can still do this, coyb

I understand it's built on that, but the guy has to react to the situation more, he seemed so progressive last season, in his subs and his tactics, I would like to see him come through this as he does genuinely seem to have a vision for the future, galloway, henen etc, but I am starting to doubt him more an more, defeat at palace and we are in a serious situation

Barry was better against West Brom than of late. Maybe he is finally beginning to get over his injury (which is another example of a player being rushed back too quickly).

Just throwing that out there into the mix.

Besic & McCarthy is the only way forward in the midfield with Barry on the bench. We need to be quicker and more dynamic which these two players will give us. Barry is a great player but far far too slow for us if we want to progress. PS will someone please take McGeedy to Lime Street and put him on a train to 'erm' ho thats it anywhere.

I personally felt he benefited from us playing a bit more like last season instead of inviting teams to push us deep because of our dicking around in possession in defence.

Barry sticks out when under the cosh because of his mobility, but is an asset when part of a team that controls positive possession. And that isn't new because he's 33 - it's been the case with Barry in midfield his entire career.

"If you don't agree with my opinion then watch another sport"

Bit childish.

Plus - I'm pretty sure @Tubey said nothing of the sort?

And controlled the game against WBA? what aspects of the game needed our control from a defensive midfield perspective? He was neat and tidy don't get me wrong but until he starts to show a little initiative in the final third when we are playing games against opponents sitting deep in their own half then he will always be the first one hooked.

I like Besic but he is devoid of ideas sometimes and we've seen him shirk responsibility by just looking to Barkley to bail the team out.

He will be a superb talent, as Tubey has said, but with a fully fit squad he isn't yet ready or good enough in our first 11.
Overhype proved! Haha...

He did NOT control the game from start to finish.

Looks a good buy tho

With respect, football isnt for either of you.

Have you considered Baseball or maybe Hockey?

Both of you lack even the basic understanding of the game of football.

Gonna put you both on ignore so as not to harm my IQ anymore, toodles.

Hahahaha

Brilliant!!

I like Besic, but McCarthy covers more ground and locks down a midfield better. Academic point tho as Besic is five times the player Barry is (currently), so both should be playing.
