James McCarthy

Spoke to his mar yesterday. She said he's becoming increasingly unsettled because the Pedigree Chum is different here to back home so his dog isn't eating well and he can't afford to import the good stuff because of his low wages. She said if he was on more money, parity with Cleverly for example, there would be no issue. Unfortunately there is an issue and he's looking to move.

True story.

I've just been over on the transfer thread and it appears Spurs are buying everybody (except Kone and Hibbo...we're stuck with those). Now in this thread, all I'm hearing is McCarthy is going to Spurs. What is it with Spurs that make them such a desirable, elite club (@Yid4life 's support aside)

I don't see what you are trying to argue here.

There have been several posters who think that as Everton have signed Cleverley on a "free transfer", the club has nothing to lose.

But the club is committing itself to paying more than £15 million in wages to Cleverley. That's much more than the "transfer fee" of £8 million that has apparently been saved. And we don't know how much of this saving will disappear in a signing on fee for Cleverley and the fee for his agent.

Opinion is divided over the contribution Cleverley will make. If he is a success in the first team, it may prove to be good value in today's football market. If he is not a success, then he will be a very expensive squad player. So there is quite a lot at risk after all.

it is a saving of probably around £6M-£7M as we don't have to pay a transfer fee. He will get a higher signing on fee.
We have to pay him the same wages whether he signs on a 'free' or not
'Free' just denotes we don't have to pay another team to release him. Not that he's doing it for zero wages, fees. bonuses.

With all the Sky revenues why is RM looking for freebies when in fact their wages when looked at are far from free in Cleverleys case reports suggest its high wages on a five year deal - reports are he is going after Michael Richards from City who will also want high wages!
Why can we not just go out and buy a promising younger players???????
I know we have a tight budget , but the wages prove the freebies do not come cheap if they turn out to be useless - Look at barry great on loan and it looks like we have a Saha situation once on the contract takes his foot off the gas!

I think that we already have the promising young players on the books, but maybe they are not fully ready yet to be regarded as first team players.

I think the manager is looking for a certain type of player :
A. Reasonably priced.
B. Premiership experience and a player that will not weaken the team when called on.
C. A player that will not be knocking on the managers door every time they are left out of the first team.
D. Age is not a major factor as players in this position can play into their mid thirties, but to have experience they will need to be a certain age.

You can easily see how Alcaraz was signed two years ago as he ticked so many boxes.

Somebody once said, You don't win anything with kids!

Everton are still top heavy with senior players. We've got some very promising young players, but we do need some more players in the middle of their careers.
