I think that we already have the promising young players on the books, but maybe they are not fully ready yet to be regarded as first team players.

I think the manager is looking for a certain type of player :
A. Reasonably priced.
B. Premiership experience and a player that will not weaken the team when called on.
C. A player that will not be knocking on the managers door every time they are left out of the first team.
D. Age is not a major factor as players in this position can play into their mid thirties, but to have experience they will need to be a certain age.

You can easily see how Alcaraz was signed two years ago as he ticked so many boxes.
In Bold we are so slow as a team the last thing we need is dads army players - RM priorities should be a good Keeper another replacement centre half a creative player to go along side RB and a winger and a back up for Lukarku the player you mention Alacaraz and I will mention Kone = disastrous signings - every Manager can make a bad signing, but this season its critical he needs to get us back on course playing faster football - Spurs last game of the season proved when Osman was our only shining light in midfield how out played we were, and he should only play for 30 mins!
We have an ageing squad lets not add to it! Get some younger fitter players in with potential!

He ain't going nowhere. not unless someone comes in with £20mil. And nor should he, he's our key player. I'd say only Stones comes close to him in regards to that. First name on the team sheet week-in week-out and rightly so. Keep him at all costs.

It will have to be more than £20M for Bobby to part with him. If not based on talent it's his importance to the team

Yep, meant to say £20mil plus! He's easily worth £30mil to us in today's market. He has it all. He got a licence to go forward last few weeks of the season and was one of our best attacking players. He's only gonna get better.

But Joey, we already have those youngsters in Stones, Galloway,Browning and Pennington. They appear to have most of the attributes you need in a central defender.

It is about managing the situation until they are ready to play every week.

I'll have what you are smoking if you think he is worth £30m. Good player, but limited going forward. Players that offer little going forward/scoring goals are not worth anywhere near that.

Except Hugo Lloris, David DeGea, David Luiz, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Cahill, Joleon Lescott and plenty of others........ like.....

A player is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay for him kids ;)

Or in Sterlings case he is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay him for his 7 kids :coffee:

None of those are defensive midfielders who don't score.
Once again let me state the same...I like McCarthy and value his place in the team and DON'T WANT TO SELL HIM.

Wait, but that's not what you said. You said players who offer little going forward/scoring goals.............. not defensive ginger midfielders from Ireland who play for Everton.

If we were to get rid of McCarthy, it would cost us towards £25m to replace what he gives to the team. So he is, to us, worth around £25m, so no, I don't agree. It doesn't matter what he's worth to anybody else at the moment, cause he's not for sale.

How do you come up with the £25 million figure? Some have said £30+ million. Others £20 million.
How can you say with all certainty we don't have a replacement on a free in Cleverley for example. Or Besic who is already there waiting for more game time.
All opinionated supposition.
Thankfully he isn't for sale and we all want him to stay so let's move on.
