Hasn't been in form recently, but I honestly think that pound for pound he is our best overall player

People are very quick to forget just how good he's been for us since we signed him

I'm loving some of the Gibson shouts as well. He was dirt to most of you a few weeks ago and now all of a sudden he's the savior of our season and a bonafide CM maestro?

State of some of you. You'll turn on a sixpence with nary a second of thought

Players are untouchable to some. There isn't such things as being in or out of form, they are either good or good players.

Not sure if this is directed at me but I'll take you on just in case it is.

James McCarthy needs taking out of the side if his form consistently isn't great. It depends how many games you would define as "form". That doesn't make him a bad player.

Same with any other player. Form players should play or alternatively a player should be given chance to regain form if by and large he has had a good campaign. Any player will have waves of good and bad games. It's when a player shows no signs of recovering that he should be benched.

I dont believe in "one game and your gone". McCarthy was very good against Chelsea. As was Lukaku.
Neither are bad players but both players are playing badly.

I've always championed Gibson. When fit, a class above McCarthy. Why has he not even been selected for cameos?

McCarthy brings much more to the table than Gibson

Gibson is merely a decent CM with good distribution. He is one of the most over rated players to wear an Everton shirt in the past decade

I stress that I'm not saying he's bad here. He's solid but he's also ridiculously injury prone and no where near as good as some make out. You'd think he was on the level of a Pirlo or a Platini the way some big him up

McCarthy can do everything he can and can also land a peach of a tackle like nobodies business. He's also younger, hungrier and spends less time on the physio table. He's been excellent for us pretty much from the day he signed up until this recent period of poor form. Gibson has managed little more than a cup of coffee in the first team during that same period of time

I must admit his tackles seem to get the crowd going unlike anybody else on the field!

I am McCarthys biggest critic. However i think he along with Stones Coleman and Barkley all need a new manager to get the best out of them. Id also say Lukaku does but people will bite my head off and say hes scored 18 goals but i think with 2 up front in a quick fast side he would be brilliant and his touch wouldnt be so noticable.
