James McCarthy

Come on. You know as well as I do that his distribution is not at the level of some of the better midfielders in the prem (it's not even at Barry's level!). Besic and Barkley both have a more incisive passing range.

It's like saying Joe Allen is better at passing than Xabi Alonso because his completion stats are better. 'Just fine' isn't good enough. Just fine is the reason we're 14th. McCarthy is great off the ball but on it he is in the lower half of the prem in terms of creativity and distribution in my opinion.

The reason we're 14th is because our manager can't organise a defence mate, it has nothing to do with Jame's McCarthy's passing

We'd probably be lower in the table if it wasn't for his tackling and hard work in the middle of the field

So his game has developed in new directions and he is a better all round player? That is what I mean, not just being better at the things he was good at anyway.
I reckon he has. He was a bit raw when he came Everton and has improved since then. Going forward he has slightly improved, and any improvement is better than none.

As @Mikey_Fitzgerald said, he's just going through bad form. We all know how good he can be and how much we miss him when he's gone.

It really is ridiculous how quick the knives come out around here sometimes

And I love that everyone is bigging up Gibson now

Go into that Gibson thread and you see people shoving each other out of the way to demand we get rid of him

The only one who gets a pass in that regards is @Saint Domingo who has consistently backed him. Everyone else is a knee jerking cry arse of the highest order

Needs to show more to his game, he needs a rocket up his ass when in possession tbh, far too casual.

His goal against Watford is much more what I'd like to see from him, he can score goals if he gets forward.

We will be a relegation team this season mate.We have consistently failed to beat poor sides at home in 2015, it will tell in the end.

Some people are so incredibly precious over James McCarthy. If anyone even dares to suggest that a 13 million pound player bought from Wigan Athletic may have some limitations, or if they feel he is 'only' worth a 'mere' 20 million, then his fanboys start having total, total breakdowns. His cult following are adamant that his limitations should not be discussed, and that we should all convince ourselves that he is absolute top draw, that he could easily get a spot in a top four side, and that the top four side would improve as a result of having James McCarthy. If you don't agree with this then it's "The absolute worstest thing I've ever read on GOT".

I think Everton is the biggest club McCarthy will play for, and that Everton are in need of better central midfielders if they actually want to surpass mid-table mediocrity.

I will admit that both myself and many Evertonians are quite adept at moaning, but I also think we are unequaled when it comes to overhyping players and managers. The truth is that some of us have been well on to the limitations of our current playing squad and the manager for a long long time. We saw through Bobby's BS and we knew what was coming, but we were vilified for saying so.

Similarly, I can remember being castigated for stating that McCarthy was average and that Everton would be the biggest club he plays for. I was 'piped right down', and told that he would improve a top four side and that he has a value of over 30 million pound. He's an average player, playing for an average team, with a less than average manager, and he isn't ever going to get near signing for an elite club.

Who has ever said he's worth 30 Million?

And if you honestly think he's merely average there's nothing I can say other than sincerely hoping you get the help you need

I honestly don't think he needs goals in his game.

Makalele, Matic, Busquets, Vieira, Khedira, off the top of my head have never got tons of goals. It shouldn't be necessary for a defensive midfielder.

But I do agree he's not what he once was and needs to offer more on the ball. Just running about like a loon isn't enough.

As mentioned in another thread. The whole Barry/McCarthy thing seems to have run its course.

Search 'McCarthy' on this website and you will see people saying that we should turn down non-existent 30 million pound bids from clubs that actually have ambition. Your post proves everything that I have said. I apparently need help for telling the truth, do I?

I don't even know if I can be arsed with another one of these arguments, but what level do you put him at then? How much do you think he is worth, and who would be interested in paying it?

The squad isn't as limited as you make out. Most of them finished 5th with record points two seasons ago. And many of them have improved since then as individuals. They are in a slump though, confidence has gone and they have lost faith in their manager.

A new manager, and a few additions to the current team and we'll be fine.

I disagree mate. I think our squad is in major need of investment. Our midfield is awful.

He's at least "good" with potential to be even better than that

I'd value him at between 15-20 Million right now

Again, if Jordan fricking Henderson can go for 20, I see no reason why McCarthy shouldn't either

He's hardly a World Class Super Duper Player in the 30+ Million range, but he's good. In fact, he's capable of being very good on his day. At his best he's a wrecking ball in that midfield who can also play the ball to feet if required. He's been central to numerous big wins for us over his time being here

His body of work speaks for itself

If you honestly believe he's merely average, I don't even have the words for you. I really don't

You agree he's been a bit crap for maybe 4 months at least though yeah?

Not all his fault like, everyone has just about.
