Nonsense. Just checked StatsZone and Gibson covered more ground than McCarthy.

Gibson was sat far too deep today...similar to barry in a way.

McCarthy needs to be upgraded and a squad option like cleverley but i dont think playing next to these two helps his game. Think he would be better off as the sole DM alongside a real CM.

Could and hopefully is just a case of needing a new boss to revitalise him. Like a lot of them.

Feels like the damage is done and half of them will be off. I'm sure Esk feels otherwise, but I reckon we're looking more and more like Newcastle every day, lots of players we reckon are boss but really can't play well together.

Totally agree. If, and right this second I fear it's only an if, we do get a new boss the job he'll have to do will be so so big. Almost impossible.

Mate right now we just need the manager out the door and the new one in, until that happens and until we can start to lok at who that manager is and the system, style and type of players they usually go for, then it's really hard to judge who we need to keep or shift on

After 35 minutes or so the camera showed him and that's when I remembered he was even on the pitch.

Yeah, he was on the pitch alright but he definitely wasn't playing!

When he 'plays' for Ireland he leaves everyone speechless too. How did that guy get on the pitch in the green kit? Oh, is he one of the Irish players? Really? But hes not doing anything.

Such a talent. He's that anonymous he can blend in anywhere.

I agree the current atmosphere at the club hasn't helped him but I don't think that's masking any of his abilities. He has the (very) odd good game but on the whole he's more conspicuous by his absence and the odd good game doesn't justify his current presence in our team. He was by no means spectacular before and he's been consistently poor for the Irish national, allied with his form for us.

What's funny with him is that if you look at any of his old Hamilton videos he's a player that played as an attacking midfielder, scored goals, got in positions, got assists.

Since then - he's changed for the worst.

Oh for goodness sake. Stones was doing Gibson's running today. The big clue was Gibson sitting alongside Jags while Stones was on the ball ahead of them both.

As everyone else has pointed out, McCarthy did so little today you'd be forgiven for thinking he wasn't on the field.

That's frightening. Gibson only strayed into united's half once, as far as I recall.

What I was getting at as well.

It's utterly bizarre mate. He's built two sides around James McCarthy and now wonders why both have failed.

You have to play two deep lying midfielders when McCarthy plays because he can't defend or block or pick the ball up from the defence and distribute it.

You have to play a 'number 10' type midfielder because McCarthy can't link defence and attack, nor score regular goals or regularly contribute assists.

So essentially, week after week, we have single pivotal point in our system which brings the whole thing down.
