I wasnt
Mate, his first season,he was fantastic, but he is one of many in my eyes who have regressed under RM,and to me even at his best he was not in the same stratosphere as Brace:)
suggesting he was as good as bracewell, rather that his role is identical, i.e. Feed the better player

Comparison with Bracewell is ridiculous. McCarthy is a decently useful journeyman pro the kind of which you find in every lower Prem upper Championship club midfield. No more no less.

They passed it around him as for some reason he is pressing on his own whilst others are sitting deep or standing still.

The real question is why was he doing this?
was it because he was told too by his manager which is a suicide tactic it's like the training drill when you stand in the middle of a circle and the players all pass it around you whilst you try to get it back, or is it because he is a tactical liability & went against his managers instructions to sit deep.

He kept looking behind him at Gibson who didnt move from deep let alone press.

Knives out for McCarthy on here yet he was the only one pressing the ball.

God I feel old when I see my hero brace on the Sunderland bench with a grey head,I always think of him as forever young!!

Ya think?

I was watching Orlando City @ New York Red Bulls a while ago and thought the chubby looking bloke on the line for Orlando reminded me of someone.

Near the end the commentator referred to "Orlando coach, Adrian Heath..."

Our baby faced assassin has got old.

Some on here have prompted me for an answer on whether I still see McCarthy as potentially the next Roy Keane. I do, but it will take longer than I thought. His form has dropped along with the rest of the team, which has made him too cautious in his play. Would like to see him in a central midfield partnership with someone who has the same engine as him, so not Barry, but perhaps Besic.

I doubt we will see much improvement until he is paired with someone who will be able to cover for him when he makes his runs forward.

Don't think we should judge him until we see him under a new manager. Most of our players have been crap so let's wait and see.

I know mate, amazingly reidy hasn't changed a jot,he looked an old git back then and still looks the same these days!!

He has disappointed, yes.

But as some others have stated, the whole team apart from Joel Robles and Gareth Barry have disappointed also.

If they're playing to get Martinez sacked, then we won't see a true picture until the new guy is bedded in.
