Interesting to see how he is deployed in one of these Dresden games. Everyone thinks he was an RM favorite but who knows if McCarthy actually also grew tired of brown shoes and his tactics. he gets a clean slate for me. RK will make his own decisions on McCarthy's worth - IMO he's no worse than the Villa bloke we're allegedly signing

McCarthy is a lot better than Gueye.

Well said... let's let the manager determine whether McCarthy fits into his systems and planning.

Yeah I was a massive critic of McCarthy, sick of the easy option passing and crab style of play. However, under Koeman he should definitely get a clean slate. He did show the odd game he was more than just a water carrier. If we can get him 100% fit, he could do the "Kante" role no doubt.

McCarthy won't be playing for RM anytime soon mate.
My thoughts exactly. Jimmy Mac was more interested in signing for a Premier team than anything else after the fall from the top flight, and El Loco gave him that opportunity.
In the first season, we all witnessed what the player could do. Don't forget, he had a lot of sceptics to win over because of his Wigan connection, which included all the drift-wood that Bob Martins had brought with him.
The next season was only a couple of games old when JMac pulled up, but didn't go off, near the end of the Gunners game when we were at 2-0 up and coasting. The rest was geography. Jimmy played off and on for the rest of that season without ever being injury free.
By the third season, Bobby BS had developed a God Complex and was unaware of his own short comings, and this time the entire team were in disarray. (We have all worked for a totally useless boss, and it is soul destroying).
Jimmy Mac will prosper under the superior coaching techniques and and fitness regime of the new structure, and I fully expect him to turn back the clock three seasons and produce the goods. At Everton.

I'm very hopeful of this

A lot of people are writing him off, but I think he'll have a great season for us and get back to the form that won us all over in his first season (I was certainly one of the sceptics when he first signed)

Defensively he did fine vs Betis.

Was very disappointed with him going forward today though.

I'm a huge McCarthy fan but - even though it was his own pre-season game - I do think Koeman will need more from his midfielders tbh.

If McCarhty steps it up and stays I'd love it, but I do now think if a decent offer comes in he'll be gone.
