James McCarthy

First 18 months before injury and NO ONE had room to complain about McCarthy.

He's struggled with coming back from knocks. I think Koeman either cuts his losses and thinks that he cant hold out for a fit player, or, the way it looks now with Koeman's comments, he sticks with a player he obviously wants to hold onto.
There were complaints mainly his on the ball ability, but we turned a blind eye because of his other contributions in the hope he'd learn it.

Several injuries later and an awful lot of pace lost, he can't even do the things he was good at back then

Rewriting of history on a par with 1984 that.

NO ONE had serious complaints about McCarthy until he lost form/became injured. He put in 18 months of constantly in motion effort.

Rewriting history, says the man that was making up awards McCarthy had won the other day.

Constantly in motion effort, more like running around like a headless chicken

It was tongue in cheek reply to someone who brought politics and history into the conversation.

Let's get the record straight. Your 'tongue in cheek' comment was calling McCarthy a 'traitor' for not playing for the country he was born in - Scotland - and playing for the Republic. McCarthy has acted like Williams who was born in Wolverhampton and chose to play for Wales. And then you attempted to 'justify' the 'traitor comment by 'I say it as I see it'.

Glad you have apologised for your 'tongue in cheek, traitor' comment.

I look forward to see Koeman work with McCarthy and hopefully he can have the same influence on him as he did with Steven Davis.

I was talking about the balaclava comment. McCarthy is still a traitor in my eyes.

And 'in your eyes' so is Williams.

Like I said I can't wait to see if Koeman can do the same for McCarthy as he did for Steven Davis.

Williams I don't count as one, he was living and working in Wales when he decided to play for them. I find it great that he decided to play for the country for who gave him a living as a professional footballer and wanted to play for them.

I think given the opportunity, McCarthy would play for another nation in a blink of an eye. Look at him for us, he has to fight for his place and he wants out.

He was very good his first season with us and I hope nobody is trying to dispute that. Has not been the same since.

I have a "Player Shirt Curse" going and McCarthy is the latest victim of that. Last three shirts with a player on them I've bought or received have...

1. Turned out to be a pedophile (Mark Chmura)
2. Instantly traded away (Alcides Escobar)
3. Became poo soon after receiving as gift (McCarthy, I got the shirt Christmas 2015)

So basically Dave, injuries and loss of form for 18 months only counts when it's a player called McCarthy - when it's Baines - we should get rid, despite the fact he's twice the player McCarthy is or ever will be?

Anyway the boss has dropped him and bought a player to start ahead of him already, and seems to be trying to get another in - so yeah Koeman rates him very highly mate

Or possibly talking up a player to kjeep their value high for a sale, who knows eh, bet you he never starts a serious game when both Gueye and Barry are fit though this season either way :)
