James McCarthy

FB? Those out side ahead of the three in the first game played tucked in...he was hardly asking him to do stuff he didn't do under Martinez covering over for Coleman when required. It;s not like he asked him to go in goal!

You do love your players in the east. No question of that. Only thing is players from that part of the world are dodgy for one reason or another. We'd be wise swerving them and their agents.

I suppose when/if McCarthy leaves he wont fall on his feet...the same as the last manager didn't...hold on....

James was a good player. He isn't now. He's been terrible for Ireland for some time now.

We will be the best club James ever plays for.

Three times ?

Oh, that's not good, that normally is followed by a move these days. Hopefully McCarthy's injury is enough to put off any potential buyers because I think Koeman is the sort of coach who can really bring on someone like McCarty.

It doesn't sound hopeful though.

I dont know, short of getting a McCarthy tattoo there's not much else the big headed Dutchman can do here.

If it's in the balance (his Everton future) it's because McCarthy himself would want assurances he has a fighting chance for his place. I'm of the certain belief that Koeman wants him here to strengthen the depth of the squad if nothing else.

That's how good Koeman is, he's already changed him into someone much better ;)

Good players dont become terrible.

We apparently have a good manager...isn't that what's supposed to happen now - a new boss comes in and reignites careers with a different method?

I now that sounds old fashioned and boringly traditional, but I prefer that method than the nu-fans shouts of "throw £70M at that Azerbaijan international centre mid Koeman FFS!!"

Aye mate i'm well aware where he played and where Martinez played him as well when he put him wide - if you remember it was me who told you he'd played him there when you didn't remember ;)

Players in the east - mate most of the oens we ever get linked with i say we should swerve big time (McGeady/Naisse etc) only Yarmalenko - at the time we where linked a nd in bad need of a winger, and Witsel - as we badly need that type of cm. 99% of players from these leagues i'd swerve big time (oh yeah Dzagoev though is awesome - but no chance he'd settle so should swerve as well) :)

All the back and forth aside mate, McCarthy will end up leaving if a decent offer comes in - at the end of todays presser Koeman stated a bit about if the players wants to leave etc, which was 'interesting' that he decided to drop it in unpromted really.

What is clear though mate is that IF another centre mid comes in then he is basically going - would you agree?

I very much doubt Koeman wants shut and suspect the ball's in McCarthy's court.

I genuinely hope he stays. There's the makings of a very good midfielder in there, he just needs the right coaching to move up a level.

Thing is mate, can you findamentally change the DNA of a pleyr once they get mid 20's or later

Loads have huge doubts if Barkley can ever become a true box to box type as well defensively he's poor - and he's a good few years younger than McCarthy is.

McCarthy for basically his career has been a recycler of the ball, usually backwards and safe, Koeman seems to want a centre mid who can do more than just play it safe - and that looks like it's ingrained in McCarthy to be that way - he's the same Internationally, at Wigan and at us. and Injuries have defintiely taken a big chunk of what he did do well - so that now his parts of the game that are weak stick out even more like a sore thumb.

Then at best mate, he may not want shut (like with Niasse and Mcgeady for example) - but he won't put up a fight if the player wants to move, which in many ways kind of suggests that he's just viewed as a relatively easily replacable squad player doesn't it?

Non-specific. No doubt referring to people he's declared he wants gone.

I said in another reply that McCarthy will determine if he himself leaves. Koeman will be fine having him there to turn to if the two he's thrown the shirt at initially falter. The only way we'll turn to get another CM now is if McCarthy decides his agent has come up with a better bet for first team football at a very decent team.

People are making a big mistake here downgrading McCarthy. He's still pretty young and with a decent injury free run in any team he'll be back to his 2013/14 form.
