James McCarthy

Wasn't missed today.

Gonna have his work cut out to unseat Gueye in future, methinks. Not sure he's the player to complement Gueye, neither
D'you think he;ll be missed if Gueye gets a bad injury/loses form badly or Barry gets injuries and suspensions?

Maybe we could put Davies in, but he's still very raw.

It amazes me how short term it is with some people. Everything has to be fantastic right here right now or else it's 'get rid and get that Bulgarian lad in for £50M'.

Berbatov?

I agree with this. McCarthy still have a role to play in the squad. Get rid of the like in McGeady, Kone, Naisse and Cleverley this summer.

Then at best mate, he may not want shut (like with Niasse and Mcgeady for example) - but he won't put up a fight if the player wants to move, which in many ways kind of suggests that he's just viewed as a relatively easily replacable squad player doesn't it?

That's probably about right to be fair.

Koeman obviously looks on Barry and Gana as first choice in that sort of position. Barry won't last for ever, but McCarthy isn't an obvious long-term replacement for him anyway.

He's been a good signing for us and gets some unfair stick, but he needs to show some improvement in some aspects of his game or he'll just end being a slightly better than average defensive midfielder. I hope ( probably for emotional reasons ) he can do that with us, but I wouldn't be gutted if he left.

However, regardless of the injury, Koeman says the midfielder will not be sold in the transfer window.

"We need to decide if it is an operation, yes or no,'' added Koeman. "There is more interest in players of Everton and we like to keep everybody and players like McCarthy need to stay.''

Maybe, maybe not. Davies could come in - if you're good enough, you're old enough - and he ain't done too bad previously.

Now, I don't know where you're going with your last paragraph, but I haven't ever been McCarthy's biggest fan anyway. Sure, he can be decent, but to me, only if the team plays a certain way do we get the best from him.

How is Gueye doing nicely atm? Do you think McCarthy couldn't put himself about like that? The job there is very specific: you keep on the move, you keep shape and you make a lot of challenges.

Non-specific. No doubt referring to people he's declared he wants gone.

I said in another reply that McCarthy will determine if he himself leaves. Koeman will be fine having him there to turn to if the two he's thrown the shirt at initially falter. The only way we'll turn to get another CM now is if McCarthy decides his agent has come up with a better bet for first team football at a very decent team.

People are making a big mistake here downgrading McCarthy. He's still pretty young and with a decent injury free run in any team he'll be back to his 2013/14 form.

McCarthy won't end up at a very decent team mate, Celtic if they could afford him which I doubt or a Sunderland type team really.

I actually think McCarthy's a decent player. With the right coach I think he can reach the heights of his first season with us. Did someone on here get a banner saying '2/3rds of the world is covered by water the rest is covered by James McCarthy'? He must've done something right...

The rs had that as well on a Henderson banner if I remember right mate.
