James McCarthy

I'd rather somebody who can do consistently, which the table shows Gueye can, and McCarthy is struggling with.
But if you add in McCarthy's pre-Everton data (as we're doing with Gueye's) does that show more consistency? I dont know, I dont have that to hand.

I'd argue that McCarthy lost his way after 18 months here, not one season. And injuries are at the heart of it. I'd hazard a guess and say that all but a season and a half of his top flight career has been plated to a very high standard.

Don't get me wrong, I think he can be a very good player, and injuries have had a say in his dip in form. I don't think he will fall out of favour either actually. Hopefully he can get a good run and partner Gueye in the middle, because when he is on form he can be great.

Regarding the last two seasons, or season and a half, I think it was difficult for anybody to shine in that team.

I hope you are right but, to me a dip in form is playing badly for a few weeks or months, McCarthy has been poor for much longer than he was good.

Which is the story of pretty much all of our players; good first season under Martinez, abject following seasons.

After deciding last week we wouldn't operate we are now deciding we need too.

Could be out for a while.

Makes us wonder why we did pull out of the Sissoko deal, surely we knew J Mc wasn't going to be fit? Oh that's right we didn't pull out

Then you cant read a form table. Not my fault.

I forgot how much I miss your selective stats. If only every year was 13/14, you'd be right about everything. Sadly its not. Ignoring the inconvenient question of why McCarthy declined so much under the man responsible for 72 points, you also have to ask why has Gueye kept up a level of consistent performance for three seasons at different clubs whilst McCarthy hasn't?

What I found astonishing was that McCarthy was very ordinary last season yet still had superior statts to the 30m rated Sissoko.

Hope the operation is a success and he can wipe the slate clean and come back like the player we signed in 2013.

I didn't ignore it I tackled it head on: we pressed less as a unit in season's two and three under Martinez and McCarthy also picked up a series of hamstring injuries in that time.

He hasn't. Read his stats again.

And you've decided this after watching garna g Gueye play 3 games? This is my point, McCarthy was excellent in his first season so the same claims that are being made about Gueye now were probably being made about McCarthy back then as well. And loads on here do expect him to score several goals a season, even though there are very few defensive midfielders, if any, that actually get more than 1-3 a season.

Look at @Joey66 post here about the "goal" a season target:

"Ah well lads when he recovers from his groin injury we have that great sidewards and backwards passing to look forwards to nd the goal a season target he keeps up with - look in his first season he was brilliant speeding all over the pitch - now Guye does the job with ease and he paasses it forwars too"

2015/16 Premier League:

Ngolo Kante: Games: 37, Goals: 1
Idrissa Gueye: Games: 35, Goals: 0
James McCarthy: Games: 29, Goals: 2

So looks like McCarthy outscored one of the best players in the league last season who helped his team win the title, and the man some people have decided to use as a stick to beat McCarthy with after just 3 games in an Everton shirt.

I have nothing against Gueye by the way, just using him to make my point. Gueye has been one of the better players to the start of the season and I think at this moment, him and Barry deserve to be in the centre ahead of McCarthy. That's not to say that McCarthy isn't a very useful squad player though or that he can't get himself back in to the starting 11 himself.
3 goals wow whats your point hes better than Kante then why did Chelsea not hunt him down?
I did state McCarthy was very good in his first season since a bad injury hes been average to say the least!
By the way is it not stats that had Tim Howard as a competent keeper ?
when he was dross! needed dropping which eventually happened, then we got rid!
also in your table you name the wrong player outlined in bold!

We did not pull out ouir private jet was on stand by it was only when Sissoko was holding a spurs shirt we pull out at 10 45 pm!

What player in the everton panel was decent in the last year and a half. None. All made mistakes and all were off form. Fans claiming that Barry was amazing were looking at a average Barry in a totally out of form team. McCartney should be given a clean slate like everyone else. He was also out with injury in a spell where evertons results were woeful. I presume he should not get the blame for those results !!!
