Overall glad he's stayed - though equally I'd accepted if he did go we'd be able to move on easily enough.

Hopefully he gets over his injury quickly and when he comes back into the team starts to grow in confidence and just basically 'do' more. He has the talent but he limits himself at times

What player in the everton panel was decent in the last year and a half. None. All made mistakes and all were off form. Fans claiming that Barry was amazing were looking at a average Barry in a totally out of form team. McCartney should be given a clean slate like everyone else. He was also out with injury in a spell where evertons results were woeful. I presume he should not get the blame for those results !!!

Absolutely, McCarthy is an Everton player and he deserves his chance to prove himself to the manager. Koeman is not new to the league, he has prepared teams to play against Everton, he will have gone through McCarthy's strengths and weaknesses.
I hope he does step up to the plate, I hope he is Barry's natural successor and will be snapping into tackles and breaking up play. However his lack of distribution may prove problematical in a Koeman team.
I am not seeking to blame McCarthy for Everton's woes, I lay that blame at the feet of Martinez, however he does need to improve dramatically, he needs to play forward passes and get some goals.

Waaaaaaayyyy!

Down to 2 back up CM now. Cleverley and Gibson to play high intensity defensive roles and also cover all the right ground.

CLEVERS > BAZZA

"Clevers" < Every midfielder in the top 3 divisions in England. At pressing he is probably the worst midfielder in world football. Jan Molby is more mobile. *Note the current tense in regards to Molby

He got garbage like Steven Davis playing at Southampton. If he can do that he should have no problem getting a tune out of McCarthy.

Nobody on here knows the relationship between Koeman and McCarthy. McCarthy has become chief contender for scapegoat and because of this there is the usual hysteria on here about what a bad player he is....which is nonsense.

In fact, it could be argued that in the first two games Koeman trusted him enough to play him in a position that he is not accustomed to. He was substituted the second day and again the bandwagon jumped on a poor performance, but it was the system that was wrong that day, rather than the players performance. I think the manager admitted this afterwards.

I just am not convinced that he has no future under RK.

With Osman and Howard going I think they are just on the lookout for somene else to focus the fume on. if RK really didnt like him im sure there would of been someone to take him in the window.
At west Brom we really needed to get Lukaku on, despite him still having stiches, otherwise at that early stage it really didnt look like we would get back into it, so James got the hook

McCarthy must be the first man in the history of football to be so despised and out of favour with the manager to start 3 games out of 3 that he was available for selection for.
