Fair enough, this is a more balanced assessment than the last few comments you have made. I will go ahead and agree that you and I are going to disagree about the challenge, that's what opinions are for. You are allowed to have your opinion on the matter and I'm allowed to have mine. None of these are "facts" like you make them out to be, but opinions. Your opinion is that it was a completely innocuous challenge, and mine is that it's a dangerous challenge, but that he didn't intend to actually injure the player.

Again, I'm not responsible for the fact that reactions from some of our fan base, especially those on the internet, are over the top. You won't find me arguing, because that's what the internet is. You trying to shove your opinions down my throat as "factual information", and have some sort of superiority complex over those fans is something that I won't stop you from doing, but I also won't acknowledge it. You do seem to be tarnishing all West Ham fans with the same brush. Even on that forum, some of the posters have called the reactions over the top. You can't let the overreactions of an internet mob affect your opinion of all West Ham fans. Pretty much every one I have met are fairly reasoned, and support a good team for the right reasons. I don't have any problems with Everton either, hence why I am giving my views about the challenge on this forum in a reasonable manner.

Also, you can't really claim that I'm resorting to personal insults, imply that you are above that, and then go on to hurl insults at myself like "cry baby" and hurl insults at all of KUMB and state how much better you are then them. The "If you want to carry on with that nonsense you will get short thrift on an Everton forum. We are fundamentally honest and deal issuing statements of truth, however unpalatable" statement just makes me laugh a little bit. It's as if you believe this forum is above over-reacting and emotions, and only deal in absolute fact. I won't stop you from believing this, just want to let you know that again, it is an opinion, not a fact. This isn't an attack at this forum btw, just your belief that you lot are above every other forum.

I will once again agree with you wholeheartedly that the over-reaction over there is over the top, and in some cases ridiculous. They are human beings, and let emotions get the best of them, and took it too far this time. I will also admit that when I first found out the news, I was furious at McCarthy. I waited until I cooled down a bit to come post over here, as I felt I would be able to give better input on the matter. There are also people on that forum who are calling them out for their over the top reactions as well. They have differing opinions on the matter, and are discussing it in a way that resembles, for lack of a better word, a forum. I don't post on KUMB, but I follow it fairly regularly, and most of the people over there are reasonable fans, and most of the discussions over there are fair, calm, and collected.

Again, sorry for the lengthy response, but I'm just not a fan of the high and mighty approach you seem to have to this conversation.

Don't worry about lengthy responses fella, I am more guilty than anyone! I hope you hang around on here, it's always good to have other teams fans on here giving another perspective.

I probably came across too abruptly. We agree non lots of things. Payet is a fantastic footballer. I think he stood a chance of being footballer of the year. He is an absolute joy to watch and was exactly the same in France.

I think we both agree that McCarthy hasn't set out to injure the man. I suppose where we differ is that you think the scissor tackle is a bit of a naughty challenge whereas I suppose I see it as unavoidable part of making particular slide tackles. I doubt I can convince you and I'm not sure you'll convince me on that one so we'll have to agree to disagree.

As for West Ham, annoying though it is and I can appreciate you won't want to hear it but you will be fine. In the last few games Payet has gone a bit quieter so maybe the break will leave him quite fresh for the run in. I also think your side were becoming increasingly dependant on him so it will be good to let some of your other players take responsibility.

You have a fantastic manager there in Bilic who gets the club and is doing good things for you. A 3 month spell without your star man won't change the upward trajectory you are on. It should also allow Antonio to get a bit of an opportunity without his disgruntlement and I think Lanzini could have a little bit more to offer if he can get a more central role. (Lanzini has had a fantastic season but I think he can go onto the next level).

Nobody is ever strengthened by injuries but it won't be as damaging as some make out.

When he inevitably gets banned, will be interesting to see who Martinez goes with. The Barry Besic and Barry Barkley combinations have not covered themselves in glory in the past (no point getting into why I think that is).

Gibson and Barry did well v West Brom so maybe that is the way Martinez will go. Against a pacey counterattacking team though there's zero pace on that midfield.

Maybe Cleverley could be the answer.

Cleverley all day for me - if fit. He is the antidote to our tendancy to take half and hour to play a pass.

You can tell he was schooled under the SAF era, like Scholes or Carrick he will not spend long on the ball unless necessary and keeps shape in midfield very well.

I said a while ago, the lad has become a victim of football fans who don't really understand the game - which is approximately 70% of those in old trafford. If he stays fit this lad will be a captain for us.

Cheers mate. I'm sure we both went a little overboard on some of our responses, but I enjoyed the debate as it wasn't done in a childish manner. I think we will most certainly suffer a dip in form, as all West Ham fans are getting dizzy in our current position anyways. Like you say, I don't think we will be as poor as some people are making out, as we are far from a one-man team these days. Back when we had Scott Parker, the rest of our team was truly sh**e, so I can see the one-man team comments there. I'm excited to see what Antonio can do, and it's a mystery why he hasn't seen more pitch time so far. Lanzini has been a revelation so far, and I'm so glad we have the option to buy before other teams can snip him up for the reported 6m or so.

Everton are a team I've never really had a problem with (except for the fact that we can't beat you lot ever!), and you're definitely the better half of Merseyside for sure. Can't handle Liverpool and their constant "we're the victim" status. Good Luck for the rest of the season, as I'm sure there are plenty of twists and turns to come for both our teams.

But you haven't wished James a happy birthday

That's you going on ignore then.

You have the honor of being the only poster currently on my ignore list.

Thought I was on it already considering you'd piped down from quoting my every comment.

If it's such a massively extreme view that McCarthy should do more then hardly anyone would agree would they. Bet there's a few though who think for 13 mill and a guaranteed starter he could start getting a few more strings to his how.
