James McCarthy

Massive McCarthy fan, he does alot of the stuff that gets missed. HOWEVER - there is a decent footballer in there who COULD do that little bit more.

That said, he does one of the toughest jobs in football and that is win the ball of the opponents.

You're going on some people's ignore list for extreme views like that.

I think McCarthy actually needs to be given more responsibility to show his real value.

Playing with Cleverley/Barkley i think would improve him as a player without the Barry safety net.

Oh, and that poster just quotes people and posts nonsense...wouldnt worry about him.

Thought I was on it already considering you'd piped down from quoting my every comment.

If it's such a massively extreme view that McCarthy should do more then hardly anyone would agree would they. Bet there's a few though who think for 13 mill and a guaranteed starter he could start getting a few more strings to his how.

Heres what i think....

1- We have no left winger that Martinez trusts so hes going with Kone against the teams he feels we will be attacking and Cleverley against the better sides. Jan/Summer we will sign a winger and Cleverley will be moved into the centre.

2-- Barkley is being played behind Lukaku this season to develop. However both him and Martinez have said that his role in the future will be deeper. I imagine next season he will be moved back.

3-- At the moment we have McCarthy, Besic and Barry all competing for the two defensive midfield positions. I think it should be noted that we really need two players for each position and i suppose we do if you add in Gibson/Osman etc...but not full of quality in reserve especially with Besic injury.

I think next season we will be seeing a shift from two defensive midfielders to one defensive midfielder and central midfielder...

This would mean Barkley/Cleverley competing for the central position (although either may also be used in another role, e.g Barkley more advanced, Cleverley on the left) and of course McCarthy / Besic for the defensive position.

What we actually need this season is two things,

A -- Besic to get a lot of game time so he fullt adapts to the league and is then able to compete with McCarthy next season.

B-- McCarthy to play with other players, not just Barry. Then he can fully focus on being the sole defensive midfielder in the team and assume more responsibility and develop into more of a dedicated defensive midfielder.

I think McCarthy is a top notch player and although Barry is plauing very well this season he should be used more sparingly due to his age and also to get others more experience and game time with each other.

Cleverley all day for me - if fit. He is the antidote to our tendancy to take half and hour to play a pass.

You can tell he was schooled under the SAF era, like Scholes or Carrick he will not spend long on the ball unless necessary and keeps shape in midfield very well.

I said a while ago, the lad has become a victim of football fans who don't really understand the game - which is approximately 70% of those in old trafford. If he stays fit this lad will be a captain for us.

hahaha....let's just say it's too soon. The heart hasn't fully healed from the pain he caused. :D

Understood. We have had many instances , Nolan taking out Anichebe for 12 months, Suarez smashing Mirallas and Distin in the same game and both being out, currently Clev and Jags both out for long periods due to bad tackles .

There is nothing more gutting than a great player being put out by an opponent. It happens, life goes on.

There was no malice in it though.

Lads check this from the come forum, are Kopites even this bad!?

I feel the some, absolutely incensed. I've post a letter to James McCarthy C/O Everton FC. I don''t know if he'll receive it or bother to read it but you never know.

Dear Mr McCarthy
Your scissor tackle on Dimitri Payet was nothing more than a cynical attempt to take him out of the game or at least slow him down. I played amateur football in the 1970’s and 80’s and even I know what damage a tackle like that can do. You, as a professional player must know that and yet you deliberately tackled in a way, absolutely calculated to injure an opposing player.
People like me pay a lot of money to see footballers like Payet who is a one in a million player. Unfortunately players like you are ten a penny and with cynical tackles like that I feel you are not even fit to lace Dimitri’s boots.
How you, as a professional player playing for Everton, a club with proud traditions can look yourself in the mirror after Saturday’s game I don’t know. I hope you are ashamed of your actions but I somehow I doubt it.
I give you fair warning, I’m an award winning playwright (New York 2009). My next play is football related and now includes at least one reference to you and your tackle on Dimitri and pulls no punches.
I’ll be very surprised if you respond to this letter but would be interested to hear what you have to say. I suppose we’re unlikely to hear a media statement from you anytime soon?

I saw that earlier. So pathetic.

BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET OVER IT HAMMERS!

FFS...The shots at Martinez in that thread claiming he planned it all along is so ridiculous.

A bunch of cry arses over there.

@ilikecheese this is aimed at you.

Oh and WOW at Zat commenting on quoting people the academy boys bothering dicksplash.

Haha...I saw it and left it mate. He was just mad that I quoted his post in the locked thread he started with a simple one word '*cringe'

That thread was so cringeworthy.

His posts on this thread are equally cringey. I've taken him off ignore for a little over a week now, and I think I might be regretting that decision.

Personally I'd just rather get on with folks, but some of them can't help but post tosh. My life will be better without Saint Domingo...I reckon it was better without Zat. Ignore button is nearly engaged.

Without wanting to add fuel to any of the hysteria from West Ham fans as there was clearly no intent to injur in his tackle but I think the fact that two players have been put out for months by very similar tackles means the technique in the tackle was bad. From what I remember playing and watching in the past you kind of knew if you were a threat you'd get clattered by someone happy to take ball and man. But they were never the kind of tackles that got people injured. Nasty little stamps or late taps on the ankle caused the damage.
I did think when Dier tackled Cleverley that it was at least a yellow maybe more and so was the one on Payet, but it's not about intent it is about making it a game that involves tackling and players who know how to do it. Not just about the effect on Payet or Cleverley, I don't want to see players like McCarthy restrained because there is not enough training done on how to tackle effectively.

FACT:- Frank Lampard broke his leg for West Ham against Villa and the West Ham fans cheered.... they actually cheered their own player breaking his leg. They didn't think he was good enough and was picked becuase he was Frank Lampard Seniors son.

Really can't wait for Payet to be photographed wearing a Man United shirt whilst being contracted to West Ham - imagine the fume. It will be a melt down of Ince like proportions.

Vile bunch of fans, simple as that. I'm sure there are some decent ones, but the ones that make the headlines are for the wrong reasons.
