When he can reach the level he showed under Koeman v Arsenal and Liverpool before he got injured then he can be very good. If he’s not at that pace then he can be very poor. Was good last night though, and a damn site better than anything Gueye or Schneiderlin have produced this season.
If he can stay fit I think he will start just about every week.

What’s the problem? A fit player called up for his country ahead of their biggest game in years - what a shocker that is. He clearly wants to play for Ireland.

I’m well aware of it. If McCarthy was fit to play for Everton yesterday, and racks up a few minutes in the three games before the play-off, then what’s the problem?
If he manages to take part in those games, then he is fit to play for Ireland - and let’s be honest, he might as well do his best to qualify for the World Cup, because there won’t be any moments of glory to be enjoyed in a blue shirt this season.
