I'd have to disagree on the Rodwell one, he's not got the strength or aerial ability to play at centre back for me - he's playing at CM for the U21s too, now. And Coleman hasn't got the awareness to play at right back.

You reckon he's well equipped for to be a centre midfielder then?

Watch him next game. There's a lot to be said for the simple ball - but he'll never look for a pass other than the safe, painfully obvious. He'll then actively look to mark himself. He'll lay it off, and look for his nearest opposition, rather than look for space.

He never looks like daring to stamp authority on a game from the centre of the park. He'll never take the ball "on"... I just can't see him doing it at centre mid. Centre back is my only (big) hope for the lad.

Yeah, was saying up until a few weeks ago that I don't think he's improved at all, but aside from the Chelsea game he's been quality since Villa at home, so yeah I'd say centre mid is his best position at the moment. He might be a great centre back who can play it out of defence in years to come, but at the moment he's not strong enough or good enough in the air for centre back. Although I do agree about the simple pass part, he needs to be a bit more creative.

I think this isn't a bad signing.

He isn't the worst player out there. Not to mention, Saha is our only real proven Premier League striker right now and he doesn't have the best fitness record. Big Vic is still injured, and Stracq still isn't ready for the first team quite yet.

I don't think he's going to get in over Vellios or Saha though. Moyes would be insane to include him over either of them, but none the less he is a decent signing on a free for a backup.

He is the white Anichebe.

what does this say about Straq? Is he clearly pants in training or something?

I guess McFadden offers something unpredictable and different....pity most of the time he is gash. Seeing as he did his cruciate he might be even more gash....or he might not. I think it's ok to sign him up given our situation and we are outside the transfer window...but am hardly jumping up and down

Let me just say I love Lee Carsley :)

(welcome back Faddy)

* is Moyes surrounding himself with (Scottish) mates then. It's one defence mechanism I suppose - trench mentality..
