Dwight McNeil over James. I really don't have words. Both would represent better value, especially the latter

McNeil is a quality young player that will be playing Champions League Football in the coming years.
He’s on the way up. Rodriguez is on his way down.
I don't know how anybody can be sure how good McNeil is when he's playing in that Burnley system. He might be really good and he also might be totally crap once he's asked to actually play football for 90 minutes.McNeil is a quality young player that will be playing Champions League Football in the coming years.

you try to hard to be controversial. Go and rub one out and come back in 2020 a better version of you

Regardless James is 74 times the player right now. If the price is the same sign James. I'd take both provided McNeil was a 5m punt as that's all he is to me.
James is still a world class player though. We need that quality now, not in a few yearsMcNeil is a quality young player that will be playing Champions League Football in the coming years.

I agree generally with that sentiment. But then the idea of turning down a player who walks in as one of the 5 or so best players in the league at his position and at a position where we have literally nothing right now is mad. It's the same as if we turned down Koulibaly who is basically the same age. They're at a level where you ignore the age and get them in if possible.Like I said, I didn’t suggest McNeill, but he’s a cracking young player.
I’d just rather buy players on an upward curve rather than those obviously past their peak.
Don’t see how that’s in any way controversial. There are loads of players on an upward curve that we could get in that price bracket.

There's no evidence that he's past his best. You're just assuming that based on his age. It’s just a different transfer strategy.
He is world class, but he’s past his best.
I’d rather we sign players like Richarlison who we got for around that figure, who aren’t the finished product but can grow with the team.
James Rodriguez is a “big name” but I don’t think £43m represents good value for a player beyond his peak, with his injury record, on the wages he would demand and we’d be unlikely to recoup half that fee in a couple of seasons time as he’d be well in his 30s.
