Transfer Rumour James Rodriguez

All very valid points.
But they dont overshadow what a fantastic player he is.

That’s fair, but it just doesn’t seem the right idea for what we want the club to be. Even if Moshiri / Usmanov has a bottomless pit of money, FFP means you can’t throw money anymore and we have to be smart with our dealings....

I agree generally with that sentiment. But then the idea of turning down a player who walks in as one of the 5 or so best players in the league at his position and at a position where we have literally nothing right now is mad. It's the same as if we turned down Koulibaly who is basically the same age. They're at a level where you ignore the age and get them in if possible.

I don’t think it’s a case of “turning down” James, I just think there are better alternatives out there for the cash and wages we’d have to chuck at him.

Rodriguez for me would be like Ozil is to Arsenal. He’s got exceptional individual quality but I fear he’d be in and out the side and games would pass him by.

I just don’t want us to sign him because he’s a “star”, purely for marketing purposes to give the club’s PR a boost.

There's no evidence that he's past his best. You're just assuming that based on his age.

2011-2015 - James averaged 40 appearances per season and 26 G/A contributions.

He was a key player, a focal point for all attacks at club level and international level. A top, all-round player. This James i’d be very much on board us getting, but he’s simply not there anymore.....

2015-2019 James averaged 33 appearance per season and 18 G/A contributions.

Nobody is disputing he’s still a quality player but he’s picked up a lot of big injuries and been on the wane for some time, making, on average, almost 20% fewer appearances per year and this is continuing to decrease.

Last season, he made only 28 appearances all year.

Read into that what you will...

I don't know how anybody can be sure how good McNeil is when he's playing in that Burnley system. He might be really good and he also might be totally crap once he's asked to actually play football for 90 minutes.

Regardless James is 74 times the player right now. If the price is the same sign James. I'd take both provided McNeil was a 5m punt as that's all he is to me.

Remember thinking how good Michael Keane looked in that team. Different types of players obviously but you're right we should be looking at attracting better players.

I understand that you can pluck out an Andy Robinson out of a smaller team but the odds of them becoming world beaters are so slim.

We need to get the monopoly money out if we want to win trophies.

FFP is a worry but as others have pointed out Moshiri still finds ways to spend it.

As long as we get the best / better players available to us I'm ok with that.

James in league games since he joined Real has 43 goals and 42 assists in 127 games. Ozil in that time timeframe has 27 and 44 in 150 appearances. And unlike Ozil, James will actually give a f.

You can keep posting all you like but the only question is injuries. Everything else is ridiculous. Any question about whether he would come here and be awesome for us and easily our best player when healthy doesn't really need to be asked.

The thing is Keane actually looked good. McNeil has moments but that team is such an attacking eyesore that it's hard to say if he's actually good. I would never buy an attacking player from them really as they aren't being asked to play football.

All a bit premature ATM and there are no leaks fromthe club which is amazing.
