Imagine thats £12mil direct to Madrid, but about 5mil to James to pay off the wage difference in the last year of his contract, signing fee and possible an agents fee.
So probably about £20mil all in all. Maybe there's bonuses in there somewhere as well.

Very complex these transfer fee's - probably why most clubs just file them as 'undisclosed'
 
Not to be overly negative, but have to wonder whether a fee like that, along with stories of 80k wages (with big performance bonuses) indicates that there was something to the stories that issues were found during his medical and we went back to renegotiate.

The £80k wages thing was based on reports from overseas where wages are usually described as their nett amount.

No way he’s only pulling £80k here, it’ll be double that gross.

I don't think he's on 80k and I think Real were utterly overjoyed to get his 280k a week wages off the books.

Hence the fee.
