Not comparing them talent wise more that we had a squad of limited creativity and they were two of our "creative" players who the manager hooked.
People were fuming when Moyes left Drenthe out of the cup game (think it may have been against the RS) yet months after he had gone the stories came out about his lack of effort, training ground shenanigans.

The managers unpopular so James is the victim who's been "chased out" yet ask yourself the question if he was training hard do you REALLY think Benitez would let one of our best players go?

Point is though mate there is a universe between Drenthe and James Rodriquez.

He is head and shoulders better than anything at the club, Drenthe and Van Der meyde were far from even our best players
 

James wants out.

It’s clear he’s been eclipsed in training and he no longer sees himself top dog. His pride is hurt, his halo is tarnished and his bright light has been dimmed.

In short, he’s been Iwobi’d.
