2020/21 James Rodriguez

When Lukaku used to belittle us in the press on international duty everyone went mad at him, but now JR is doing exactly the same, and has previously stated to our faces on a club outlet that he only came because of our previous manager who mollycoddled him, it’s Benitez’s fault?

Madness.
There are people on here who'll blame Benitez if their Pukka Pie isn't warm enough.

The manager is entitled to make whatever decisions he likes. If he thinks James Rodriguez - the most gifted player in our squad - is not going to do the job required at Everton this season, fair enough. We need a manager who is not afraid of the big decisions. HOWEVER, if he thinks James Rodriguez is not up to it, bins him, and proceeds to select Alex Iwobi or Andre Gomes instead, well, he deserves every brickbat that's coming his way.

We need a manager to strip this club bare, start from scratch, and build us up year on year. I have no issue with somebody thinking James is not committed. Based on last season, I'd tend to share that perception - as the player's social media account vividly illustrated when we were getting hammered at City. The manager may well decide to get shot. HOWEVER, no sane world exists where Rodriguez is banished and Iwobi/Gomes become starting players in an Everton team.

I was thrilled when we signed James. I would be saddened if he leaves us now, and reluctantly accept a manager's right to move him on - but ONLY if he was adequately replaced. It all boils down to who he can get in to replace him. If that person is Iwobi or Gomes, then Benitez is going to alienate many of the moderates in the fan base who were prepared to keep an open mind on his appointment despite the noise. When he loses the moderates - always the majority at any club - he's toast. In this case, it will not be because of his history, baggage, or any other spurious nonsense. It will be because of his actions as Everton manager. And he can't ask for any fairer than that. Get rid of James, don't replace him properly, and keep Iwobi/Gomes and Benitez is in the fast lane to a pre-Christmas sacking.

Honestly has this guy done anything of note since those 5 games in Brazil in 2014?

He was a bit part player at Real in his time there, even under Carlo, Zidane never trusted him and sent him to Bayern for 2 seasons where they never took the option to sign him and won the treble the season after he left.

He's been living off 2014 where everything he hit went in the net, his best football came in farmer's leagues of Portugal and France, such an overrated footballer who's never been World Class.

The Colombian Schillaci.

He's immensely talented but like Ancelotti he's tugged off by the fanbase because it elevates the club to have a "world class" player/manager associated with us.

The reality is he misses half the season through injury, is on massive wages, takes weeks off when he feels a twinge and the opening purple patch we had aside he had as many anonymous games as he had great ones with his assist in the Derby and goal at Utd the only real moment's of quality that stand out as "wow'.

Facts are we won more games WITHOUT him and his lack of physicality in the middle see's us over run and his lack of tracking back out wide see's the fullback isolated and doubled up on.

I'll bet anyone if we sign even a half decent improvement we'll be much more balanced as a side without the Lord and Saviour.

???

You'll have fans defending him though and blaming Benitez when he's wanted out the moment Carlo left and likely when he shot off before the season had even ended.

Him and Kean need chasing.
Don't be ridiculous.
Benitez hates him, nearly ruined his career when at Real. Told Hamez he wasn't wanted as soon as he took over.
