We have had a few players that have been world class at some point, Nev, Beardsley, Gazza, Eto, Rooney, Materazzi.

Kanchelskis is a good shout.

currently or was at one stage?

I said this and got abuse.

Is he our first world class player, in the prem era ?

I suppose it depends on the definition. If it’s ‘would any team in the world have him’ then there’s probably a few.

Rooney when he went to the euros in 2004 after his season with us.

Baines 2009-12 could have played for any team in Europe with ease and was arguably up there with Cole and Alba as best in the world.

Lukaku in his final season with us. Any side in the world would have had him.

Digne. People may laugh at this one but it’s is difficult to find any left back in world football better than him at the moment. Perfect in defence and the best in the league in attack. If TAA and Robertson were being hailed as the best in the world why is Digne with better stats than both of them not?

Think there's just something different with James, you can see it, can't necessarily quantify it. For example someone like Phillip Lahm who was the best and most consistent full back for a decade, I wouldn't necessarily say he was an undeniable world class talent.

Obviously it's a category that always lends itself to forwards and #10s.

When James gets the ball the game is then completely played at his pace. There really aren't many players in world football who are like that, like probably less than 10.
