Early Rooney could grab a game by the scruff of its neck and anger bang it into submission. James caresses the game, and sensually cajoles it into doing what he wants.
He may have gone about it slightly differently, but the feeling was the same. That it was his game and everyone else was just joining in.
Both of them see things that noone else can, but seeing alone would be a wonderful thing. They then have the effortless talent to pull it off as well. Time goes much slower for them.
Then there was the feeling the opposing teams had when they played. A palpable mixture of sheer panic and fear mixed with awe. Now we've seen great players arrive at Goodison to play against us, Zola, Ginola, Juninho, Henry, Ronaldo, David Silva, Aguerro, De Bruyne, and many more. And all of them can and have single handedly taken teams apart, regularly too.
But as devastatingly good as they all have been, none have had that same feeling. And almost all, barring maybe Juninho, all came with a team full of stars to help them shine. It was expected.
Probably the closest I've seen was Sanchez when he was at Arsenal.
