He's getting doubled up on and because we don't have Richarlison driving into the area, there's nobody stretching the opposition to stop them doing it.
He's good enough to make stuff happen without being fully fit, but he needs other players to help out.

James has been poor in his last 2 starts though, so please don't take this as me letting him off the hook.
This is the key point. James thrives when he can release the ball quickly - it doesn't matter if he doesn't run or is slower than the opposition because the ball moves faster than the opposition can run. That's when his vision and precision matter.
Every player has trade-offs. James is a weapon and can control the game if Everton lines up in certain ways. Lacking Richarlison and with Gomes's drop in form removing some possession (Gylfi is not useful there), leaves James with no fewer places to go with the ball and a lot less room to work - he is gonna be less effective. You don't want James playing deeper in midfield (he then can't unlock things in final third for you and needs to defend more).
All that said his touch was heavy on two balls to Digne in the first half that I expect him to get right, he wasn't on his best aside from all else.

Anyone else feel he’d be better being moved centrally into Gomes/Sigurdssons position.
Feel like teams are sussing him out now on the wing, literally Shaw didn’t let him do anything with the ball today as soon as he got near it he was all over him.
Sigurdsson didn’t make one single pass to DCL today and that’s disgusting. I guarantee you Rodriguez would be pulling the strings for us if he was in that position today.

Someone else needs to go there. I don’t know what pictures of Moshiri in a compromising situation with DBB he has, but that’s the only thing I can think that keeps him being played. Gomes is a passenger with nice passing but no real threat.
I genuinely don’t care who goes there, I think him with Gordon on the wide. Even iwobi there with James on the wing.

Maybe. But then you'd want to have someone of high quality to create football in the final third - which is harder to replace.
He did that in the second half and actually, Evertons possession and clarity of attack was much better for 15 minutes until he went off - but his defensive prowess isn't flattered there and then you have no one to make the killer ball in the final third. A lot of that possession in second half petered out with lack of ideas in attacking positions.

He has to do something Ancellotti as current personnel ain’t cutting it when called upon. He has to change things.
I feel like thats the area were we have lacked the last few games, getting the transaction right from defence to attack, if we’re playing out from the back, what’s the point in having a midfielder who’s just gonna stand around for the ball get it and then make simple sideways passes or turn around and play it right back to the defenders? We need someone there who’s constantly looking to pick out players ahead, neither Gomes or Sigurdsson have done that of recent.
Id play Rodriguez there no doubt.
