Hockey is also played on Ice?

What devilment is this

Milan, Inter, Parma and Juventus' teams in the 90s would walk the premier league as it is today.

Those teams were able to concede around 25 or less goals a season.

If you have a rock solid back 5 then over the years thats usually been the best platform to build a title winning side.

It helps to throw in a couple of superstars in midfield and a goalscorer up top of course.

Every single time i thought...golllaaazzziooo lol

Kind of (to both of you), when you look at the deep playmakers in the premier league era;

Jorginho -- Nowhere near as effective as in italy
Veron -- Flopped at two clubs
Arteta -- Moved deep when older
Scholes -- Moved deep when on his last legs
Carrick -- Almost overrated
Thiago -- Negative effect on the team

No doubt ive forgotten one or two...but my view is that so far this type of player has not 'worked' in the premier league.

When we look at the type of player who may be effective in the 6 position i wonder if it may be the Gbamin type...from what ive seen a well built player who can tackle, bring the ball forward and has a decent passing range.

If not someone like that, and a true playmaker then I think it would need to be either a very young player coached to play that role or someone who has experience in the premier league.

I wonder if James may actually become that player for us in a couple of seasons...but that doesnt negate my belief that we could do with a player to link defence and midfield today.

The PL right now in terms of playmakers is about dynamism and powerful running on the ball. Grealish, KDB, Fernandes - they lead the chances created stats etc for a reason. Grealish had the most yards carried in 2020 - all the other players in the top 5 were defenders.

Got to be able to commit defenders and cut through lines.

I think you're right, there isn't many natural deep-lying playmakers in the league. I think Neves is probably the nearest one though Wolves don't really play that way either - he has the ability, though.

Personally, I feel we need a ball carrier in midfield in the Grealish mould over a 'number 6'. Someone to commit defenders and then in turn have the ability to get the ball into the final third and to James etc.

Gomes did it pretty well in the opening games but probably isn't the long term answer.

It isn't the 90s anymore. Teams used to score 60 goals and be top scorers. Now teams score 100. You have to have a functioning attack.

Don't ever believe James stories from Don Baking. If James has wanted to go to Juventus he would have done it last summer.

I dont believe anything my friend. Ive come to learn that you can only believe a transfer when you see the player in the shirt at the official press conference

I have however been expecting this type of story to be written sooner or later

Your golden vision knows better that believing any story :)

Stories about James going to Juventus have been around for a while but I don't see it happening. I think James really wants to stay at Everton and be successful with Ancelotti at our club.

I will defer to your south American intuition on this one. I hope he does. Hes the catalyst we need to move on to the next level

If we signed a Grealish type then they'd be in for Allan/Doucoure...

I think with European football we'd need at least one more centre mid and a deeper player.

If we did sign a more attacking midfielder then it wouldnt bring the best out of the other 2...or james as i think he needs that space

The reason teams score alot is because of attacking play and limited defensive nous.

2 attacking full backs and high lines arent something from the 90s other than when Parma were gung ho

he used to have a signed photo of Claus Thomsen on his bedroom wall. No way he will go to Juve.
